Erik Smith Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 AMT/R2's 49 Ford kit. Grandpa pulled the old flathead out years ago after it blew, he passed away, and everyone forgot about the car. Now, it's pulled from the barn and ready for, well...
Erik Smith Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 and... Lot's of fun to build - I didn't have to worry about having a perfectly smooth paint or adding too much detail - in fact, I took some things away! Thanks for looking!
jeffs396 Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 WOW!!! Super realistic! This one qualifies for the "real or model" category!
Terror Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I like how you did the tranny, very realistic.
Kanedge Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Perfectly done in an old way. How did you do the rust on your bumpers and the patch near the c pillar on the left side?
trogdor Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 That view looking into the engine bay is great. Love the transmission and exhaust flanges. And the torn front seat back looks perfect
Bastardo Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Perfect weathering and the overall look of the car is fantastic
Foxer Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 That green color is the one I seem to remember on all those old Fords ... or maybe it's just the one that resided by me. Your details where parts are missing is exquisite ... the tranny, steering wheel and tail light especially. Very nice weathering!
Sixties Sam Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Very realistic! I could just imagine finding that in an old man's barn, covered with rust, dust and bird poop!Nice work! Sam
Greg Pugh Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 VERY nicely done. I love how you didn't take it too far. Seems like the rust thing is taken too far sometimes. Yours is perfect. Still wearing some original paint but is worn through. Then the little details like the steering wheel missing and the springs showing on the seat but the winner for me is the missing engine with the trans left behind and the exhaust pipes still sitting there. It seems like that's a detail that's always missed. Bravo!!!
TheCat Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Love that weathering on that kit. Great job.
Kris Morgan Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Wow, that just may be the best "beater" model I have ever eeen. The color looks correct for the period and, the rust is just perfect. Two little details that really got me are the wired up tranny and, rust stain on the whitewall. Very, very nice job.
Terry Sumner Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Ya know I personally have a dislike for all these rustbuckets that seem to be in vogue now...but THIS one is SUPERB! As others have said...not taken to that unrealistic uber rusted out junk fad! Your weathering techniques are spot on. Would love to see a how-to on how you accomplished this weathered car.

I agree - this one IS superb. Makes me think of Thunder Road. Now since the engine is already out put a caddy mill or an early hemi in it and run moonshine. grumpy gus
Brokentail58 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 That is awesome !!!! Great weathering.
Iron Fist Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Awesome, nice touch with the front end unsprung.
Terry Sumner Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Awesome, nice touch with the front end unsprung. Yeah...some would call it a Gasser!
Erik Smith Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 Thanks for all the comments. I am happy with the way this kit turned out and glad some of you are also. Rather than describe the techniques I used, I'll try to get some photos together. Thanks again!
DRG Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Very good build, realistic. Wish I had a grandpa like that.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Doctor Cranky LOVES this one! Great job on the weathering, and that interior really draws in the eyes. I think it's a keeper, and you know what it made Doctor Cranky scream? LONG LIVE RUST!
Art Laski Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Nice job! Fantastic weathering and detail. Love that trans.
David G. Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I'm glad I got to see this one the second time through. Excellent weathering work! David G.
