oldscool Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) Here's my second project of the year painted with just what you see in the pic. I looooove Tamiya spray paint. It dries smooth as silk in 15 mins and I have never messed up a paint job using it. Getting too expensive for my shrinking budget though. Trying to decide whether to go with the traditional black and white muscle car interior or with a shade of tan. Was tan even a choice in 71? grumpy gus Edited April 14, 2011 by GrumpyGus
Keef Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 nice looking paint job...in answer to your question on interior colors have a look here http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1971ColorAndTrimPlymouth-04.shtml
diymirage Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) looks great (tempted to tell you slap a confederate flag on there) as for the interior, what are you planning on building ? stock retro build ? pro touring ? personally i dont pay too much mind to building stuff factory correct as far as im concerned, if it looks good, build it (lemme see if i can find a charger pic i can show) found those pics, not factory correct BUT i thought it looked good with the paintjob so why not? oldscool Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) Yep Eelco, that's pretty much the way I build em. I don't worry a whole lot about factory correctness either. As for the confederate flag I could go for a window decal but not the full General Lee treatment. Your Charger looks great by the way. grumpy gus Edited March 9, 2011 by GrumpyGus
Tony T Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 That orange is cool...I used that on a VW Beetle a while back! What do you want the interior to be? I think tan would be good. Would go well with the orange.
Iron Fist Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) Nice paint work, is that straight out of the can or did you run in through an airbrush? Edited March 9, 2011 by Iron Fist
diymirage Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 thanks gus i build that model for my boy, my brother in law used the apple green paint for a shelf in his room and i used the leftover paint on the charger
Greg Pugh Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Wow, that's going to look sharp. I dig the orange. Nice job on the paint!!
mrmike Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) For the interior, I'd with black with orange seat panels. I've seen a '71 GTX at the local cruise night like that...orange with a black/orange interior. Edited March 9, 2011 by mrmike
oldscool Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Nice paint work, is that straight out of the can or did you run in through an airbrush? Hey Justin, it's straight from the spray can. grumpy gus

cruz Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Very cool, love the orange. I like the traditional interior colors for these Mopars, I would choose either the black or white....
oldscool Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 nice looking paint job...in answer to your question on interior colors have a look here http://www.hamtramck...ymouth-04.shtml Thanks for the link Keith and I now have it bookmarked. I see that the orange and black was a factory option. Hmmmm grumpy gus
oldscool Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 I've got the day off today so I got some more painting done. The front subframe will be black as will the rear axle. I shot the rear end assembly in silver just to get the exhaust done. These are the wheels I am going with : They are from the Revell 55 Chevy street machine kit so they are the correct 1/24 scale. All the other wheels in my parts box are 1/25. grumpy gus
Lunajammer Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 An easy kill Gus. I think federally funded research corroborated by independent studies have confirmed that five slot mags look awesome on almost anything. And yes, "awesome" was the scientific descriptor.

I think yer on ta sumthin there Mike. My favorite wheels have always been 5 slot aluminum of any make and Cragar SS. I also love Mopar Rally wheels. grumpy gus
oldscool Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 Well the interior painting isn't going so good. The orange will need about five coats to cover because I painted the whole interior black first. She's getting stripped and will be classic black and white instead. grumpy gus

oldscool Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 Yes it does philo. I only wish it were a Roadrunner instead. I like the RR grille better. grumpy gus
george 53 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 THANKS D and Joe!!! This isn't the only place I've had this problem. But now ,thanks to you guys i can FIX it!!! I LOVE this place!!!!! :D
oldscool Posted March 20, 2011 Author Posted March 20, 2011 (edited) Here is the interior after stripping it and painting the orange first and then the black. Should have done it this way the first time. The orange has been covered with some flat coat to tone down the shine. I like the looks of the orange console although it will be painted black later. The engine is also done except for the distributor. The engine isn't red, it just looks that way in the pic. grumpy gus Edited March 20, 2011 by GrumpyGus
