mrmike Posted April 14, 2011 Author Posted April 14, 2011 Thanks Randy and Clay! I'm still sorting out some details that I want to add. I'm so happy with the hood right now, I could scream for joy!
W-409 Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 That hood sure looks good! I like how you fixed it, I think that now when the hood is repainted, it's worth that extra job, you did... Engine looks very good too, detailing is great, and paintjob looks good as always. Chassis is nice also. i can't wait to see this one finished, this one is maybe one of your best builds so far... I must get building my '70 SuperBee as soon as possible...
mrmike Posted April 15, 2011 Author Posted April 15, 2011 Thanks Niko! The interior is complete and ready to be installed into the body. More to come.....
mrmike Posted April 17, 2011 Author Posted April 17, 2011 I have nearly destroyed the hub caps for this build! When I got them from Scale Equipment Limited, they were mounted to a plastic "X" for plating and I really struggled to get them removed and down to the correct thickness for mounting to the wheels. A couple shots of the completed chassis. More to come.....
blubaja Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Love the B5 blue and steelies! Sucks about the hood. Keep up the good progress man!
mrmike Posted April 18, 2011 Author Posted April 18, 2011 Frank, the hood has been repaired. I can't see any trace of the burnt score lines! Another thing I don't like about this kit is the wobbly wheels. My solution worked in two ways for me. 1. By adding some styrene to the wheel retainers, I eliminated the wobble. 2. Due to the depth of the SEL steel wheels I used, this helped push the wheel and tire out into the fender well for a better stance. A mockup to check the stance. I like it!! More to come.....
mrmike Posted April 28, 2011 Author Posted April 28, 2011 (edited) After talking to a good friend of mine about the Road Runner, he told me that he has ordered several sets of the clear red taillights from Missing Link Resin and that he is going to send a set to me when he gets them. Thank you Dave!! I have been thinking about this build over the past week and I must get back to it and finish it up. I need to wetsand the body again, polish it out, BMF, and begin final assembly. Edited April 28, 2011 by mrmike
mrmike Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 As I am getting closer to completing my Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, I have begun to think about this uncompleted build. I had lost interest in it and after reading one of my older builds elsewhere, I made the comment about completing my projects instead of just throwing them back into the box like I have done here. And now, I feel somewhat ashamed for doing so. This Hemi Road Runner is coming back out of the box and it will be completed. I want to wetsand and polish the body again and finish assembling. I owe it to myself and to all those who were following this build. My 1968 Plymouth Hemi Road Runner is back on the bench!
Romell R Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Thats a fine build Mike and you were rewarded with a good looking hood because you perservered keep up the excellent work.
Chris guthro Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 That build should be the one on the cover if they ever reissue this kit! its absolutely perect mike, please finish this one up
mrmike Posted June 22, 2011 Author Posted June 22, 2011 Thanks Romell and Chris! I have been polishing the body and will start foiling soon.
Crusader101 Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 I'm looking forward to continued progress as well....my favorite car and favorite color!
Chuck Most Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Never noticed the misshapen wheel openings. Haven't built one of these in a while, mostly because the last one I bought (during the RC2 years) came with the WRONG BODY. (GTX, not the 'Runner body.)
mrmike Posted June 24, 2011 Author Posted June 24, 2011 Thank you Mike and Chuck! Chuck, if you look at the GTX body, the rear wheel arches are the same way...shaped wrong.
charlie8575 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Well, unlike the hood, at least the foil isn't foiling you... *rimshot* *dodging rotten tomatoes.* Good work, Mike. Charlie Larkin
mrmike Posted June 26, 2011 Author Posted June 26, 2011 Charlie, don't quit your day job! And, thanks!
mrmike Posted June 28, 2011 Author Posted June 28, 2011 Foiling is not done yet, but I did notice that the molded-in side markers are not correct. The side markers were flush with the surface of the fenders. I decided to utilize my side marker technique using common pins. I drilled a small hole into the side marker, inserted a small amount of glue and then the pin. I trimmed the excess pin length inside the fender. For the front side marker, I applied a dot of Tamiya X-26 Clear Orange. For the rear side marker, I applied a dot of Tamiya X-26 Clear Red. More to come...
richcrabman Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Thanks George! I did notice the lack of molding around 3/4 of the rear window and I took steps to add something for molding. A little more progress! I have reshaped the fender openings. I added a thin strip of styrene around the rest of the window to act as a molding and to aid me when I BMF the rear window. I got the engine into a coat of paint this morning. Mopar Street Hemi Orange Engine Enamel. More to come..... Where could I get some of that mopar orange paint? I live I'm the united kingdom so i don't think they sell it over here. Thanks, Rich

Thanks, Rich I got my can from Summit Racing here in the States, but I don't believe that they can ship paint out of the country. I would suggest finding a hobby paint in the UK that is close to the color of Street Hemi Orange unless you can find some orange paint in an auto parts store. Good luck!

mrmike Posted June 29, 2011 Author Posted June 29, 2011 Unfortunately, Federal regulations forbid it. You should be able to find something close to it in you country.
