LAone Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 hey guys, well i joined MCM last year august and realized that i didn't share a couple of my builds. this one is the first one after a 5 year hiatus from the hobby. its also a first for scratch building and detailing, other than what comes in the kit. i built this for my daughter, which at the time she was 5 yo. she has come to like beetles. i have another one in my stash that she wants me to build for her. i lost the wiper blades, the paint on the engine bonnet was no good. i stripped it and haven't fixed it yet, the front side windows were glue damaged and cause of that i wasn't able to mount a thermadore that i made. due to time limitations its not 100% to where i wanted it to be. kit: tamiya 66 beetle scratch built: header, narrowed front beam, willwood style pedal assembly and carb manifolds after market parts: mr model carb stacks and muffler tip, crewdawg resin carbs, pegasus low pro tires w/thin white wall, BMF
Chuck Most Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Oh yeah, gorgeous! Love seeing Beetles, just finished one myself that's about 60% Tamiya '66!

Draggon Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 You nailed the look! I dig beetles set up like this. Beuatiful engine work, and a great job on the header and stinger! Does it have a deck lid? Looks like you made some stand-offs for it.
LAone Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 thank you everyone. i appreciate the compliment. as for the deck lid, it needs some work. i tried to make it look like the 50's style deck, but then the paint didn't come out good. i stripped it, but the brake fluid ate up the putty work. didn't know it would do that. so its in the parts box waiting to get redone.
