My grandmother found this kit at a out of the way store in Bay City Michigan, for around 5 dollars, still sealed... she thought it would catch my interest. Well, it did. This car is proving its challenge though, dealing with a warped frame, and deciding to use mainly factory colors. (I had to google some images of stock body colors) But overall.. I think she is going to turn out great once Im done.

(Side note: For some reason, when ever Im working on this car... I have Swing music playing. Maybe it puts me in the right mind frame? lol)

Think the factory color was a yellowjacket color, I dont have anything like that.. so that was the closest I could come up with. Body is going to be all black, with white roof and accents... I wanted to color code this car as close as possible...

An interesting car though it proved to be a mistake for Ford.

Yea, I dont know why this car never made it... oh well... still pretty. And stance wise, its not going to sit like that. I set hte body over the rear axle after assembling the rear-end and tires, and did that to prevent the whole assembly from rolling off my mantle of my fireplace. ;) If I ever find another kit, I might do a custom job, just to see how it would turn out. B)

This is my inspiration and guidance to the car, on how I want her to turn out.. same color, just a few tiny changes.

Edsel is one of the best looking cars, ever made! Great to see you building one of them. I must get this kit, or two. I'd like to build one factory stock and of course one Gasser... Your engine looks very good so far, I can't wait to see how this one turns out. It's great car! ;)

Boy when your Grandmother buys you a kit, you pretty much have to build it. That said, this is going to turn out great. Excellent work on the interior and that engine color is just about as close as you can get. I had a neighbor that rebuilt Edsels and that was the color of his motors. Fine detailing on the motor and wheels and tires. Are those the stock kit tires or aftermarket stuff? They were nice looking cars with just one problem, the horse collar grille. Nice build so far and I think your Grandma will be happy. If she keeps going to out of the way stores who knows what she could bring home to you next. Patrick M

Update on the Pacer.... finally got my frame from Mr Alflen. Thank you so much! It was absolutely perfect! Now that I got the frame, I can finally start assembling the suspension.... snapped a few pics with the motor mounted and partial front suspension done.

Third pic is the Firewall, with the Master Cylinder in place, along with the steering gearbox. I should have the rear suspension with driveshaft done at some point today, if my kids can leave me alone long enough, lol.

I know... she is currently on the East Coast dealing with a family emergency, but I have no doubt that she has her eyes peeled for another kit. (As if I dont have enough, 9 builds currently, why not add more to my stress, I mean, job load?) Lol.

Hey, Steve!

I usually don't do this (jumping in on somebody's build thread), but you have such a neat build going that I just couldn't help myself.

Looking at your interior pic, I see you're going to considerable effort. But, I just wanted to point out that the oval-ish shape in the center above the gauges is the speedometer. You've detailed the guages, but missed the speedo.

Here's a pic of a 1:1 to show what it looks like. The speedo was a floating wheel that rotated to display the Pacer's speed in front of the driver.

Just as an FYI, here's what the wheel looked like outside its clear dome:

Just another very unique and interesting feature of a very unusual automobile!

Hope you know I don't mean to be critical, but I just wanted to share a tip with you to make your "nifty Fifty" project even better.

My neighbor and a bunch of his friends all have Edsels and that engine color is so close, its near perfect. If you need reference photos, I may be able to get you a few. My neighbor's father-in-law won Best of Show at a national Edsel meet for his frame off restoration. Its quite a sight to see all of these Edsels gather next door on their way to a local car show.

Thanks for pointin out the speedo! I didnt know it was there. Ive only seen one Edsel in real life, and never got a chance to see the dash. Ill be sure to correct that as soon as I can. Think Im going to come up with a wire kit for the distrubtor..... I see everyone else do it, I might as well. Though dont have the cash to buy one of those pre made ones, so Ill have to make my own. And no.. no criticism goin on.. it was somethin you knew, that I didnt, and was kind to point it out.B)

You can easliy drill out and use the kit supplied distributor - no need to use one of the pre-wired ones unless you are in a hurry. Plus, you do it, you learn. You can use that $5 on something else that is more difficult to replicate.

Neat build going on. I didn't know the engines on these were yellow!

Sadly, my tools are in short supply, as I have a nice xacto kit, couple pairs of hemostats, this poker thing, I have no idea what to call it. No dremel, no airbursh, kids soak up alot of my extra money. But I make it happen with what I have.

this makes me want to build a custom edsel  I love them, but they cop such a bad wrap from car critics. Honestly there such beautiful cars, great build mate!

You know... I was sittin there... not 15 minutes ago, from the time this was posted.. thinkin... I wonder how a custom Edsel would look? Lol. I know for a fact I could EASILY lower the front end.. it has the old school spindles, kingpins, whatever you want to call them.. I could just turn em upside down and mount them with the tires.. therefore dropping the front end. Rear end... would be a bit trickier, but I could figure it out. Im hoping to post pics of the completed undercarriage in about a hour, so stay tuned!

I'll post up picks of my 49 ford for rear suspension height. What I did was use a dremel tool to notch the chassis rails (like they do on lowriders) then removed the leaf springs and replaced them with four link / air bag suspension. This looks great and should give you a drop of around 5" in 1:1 scale, depending on the model ofcourse.

Finally.... rolling chassis! The only thing not included in these shots are the actual shocks, as they are still drying. The stance and the alignment came out perfect on this one. :D

Im now at a point where production on this car might have to slow down, due to cold weather. I can not really work on this body untill it warms up. (Stupid Michigan Weather)I also apologize, as my camera is possessed, it does what it wants, when it wants. Some shots come out great, others look like poop.
