oldscool Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Here's the 56 Belair that I posted a few months ago and in the post I stated that I wasn't even going to attempt to hand paint the side trim. Well I got some BMF from model roundup and gave it a shot. It's really not difficult just tedious. Like picking the fly poop out of pepper . You can see the knife slip above the front wheel opening but over all I am happy with it. If an old nervous hack like me can do it, anybody can. gus
Greg Pugh Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 That '56 is one of the more difficult ones to do too. Nice work!!
LAone Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 congrats on your first try. you did great! once you do more, you'll find your own way of applying it.
Dragline Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 "Fly poop out of pepper"? I have to remember that one. I LOL'd. Looks great for a first effort. It's all in the wrist. Bob
Brutalform Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 First time heh???? Looks like you have been at it for a while!!! Nice Build!!!
oldscool Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 That '56 is one of the more difficult ones to do too. Nice work!! I knew it was considered a difficult one to do but it's not a great kit nor is it one of my better builds so I figured if I screw it up then not much lost. gus
Foxer Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Beautiful job! On that spot above the front fender just put a short piece the length of the gouge over top. BMF is so thin it barely shows unless you;re looking for it. This also works for complicated areas where a 1:1 car would have separate pieces of trim. An overlap simulates the 1:1 joint

An overlap simulates the 1:1 joint I'll give that a try and here is a pic of the other side with door handle done and black detail in side trim done with fine point Sharpie. gus
crazyjim Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Looks pretty good, Gus. Much better than trying to paint the trim.
Agent G Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 "Picking fly poop out of pepper" I nearly spit Diet Coke on the key board. Apt description, very apt.......................... Good job on the trim. G
walt francis Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Gus like everone says the more you do it the better you get and you did really good for your first try, and to do script get an old model and practice on that the trick is let the knife float don't force it to cut .....Great Job !!!!
Jon Cole Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Really, REALLY laughed out loud! Great description! Great job on the foil too!
