I was wondering how you would feel about that.

I may even go one step further and "Foose" it, where it is roughed up with very very fine sandpaper or polish, to give it a brushed aluminum look, but I can always do that at the end.

Okay, I pau for now, maybe even for today..

From one Falcon guy to another, I really like your build and think the brushed affect will look great. I like the brushed panels on the back of the Ford Flex and think it would look good on the sides as well. Sort of the modern equivalent of a country squire. I remember the first model I saw of Gregg's - a 48 Woodie with chrome foil and carbon fibre rather than wood. That's thinking outside the box. It looked awesome.

Have a great time at GSL

Phil, I am humbled that you remember that one!

I just looked at it's second cousin, one I was going to make into a fully-detailed one, with aluminum and better carbon fiber.

I am humbled...

Fine steel wool also would work well for creating a "brushed" look on those side panels. I'd definitely do that; having that entire area done in bright chrome is bit overwhelming, IMO.

Something else you might consider that I think would look cool is painting the "hash mark" trim on the rear quarters black. Just a thought ...

I did the black in the Chevrons, didn't reshoot the pics yet.

I haven't found the steel wool yet

My methods with polish/paper don't work

I was going to try the steel wool, or maybe like Chip did, with that green Scotch pad first on a test side/strip

Why don't you just shoot semi-gloss or use a brush? Actual brushed metal wouldn't look right at this scale.

There's an idea.

Maybe even Testors Dullcote. That would give a nice contrast to the "chrome" outlines. (Although I like the full-chrome look, like you did it in the first place).

the green Scotchbrite pads will work,

in my case i rubbed the foil while it was still on the sheet, then transfered it to the model. if you are careful i'm sure you can do it while it's on the model already. make sure you wipe it down afterwards to get rid of the black residue.

Sorry, but that looks more like vandalism than brushed aluminum (in scale)...

I read the first 3 pages in this thread and then skipped to the last page to make my comments and DANG,the Falcon turned into a SCION XB!....Seriously,I read most of the comments over on the Hobby Heaven Board, and a lot of the comments on here, but ended up deciding to buy this kit based solely on ONE POST....The one Gregg posted with the pics of the Pro Touring build. That was all I needed to see to make my decision..........'Z'

It's looking nice Gregg, but I'm not sure about the chrome panel. I have to say that the more I see of this kit,the better I like it regardless of the flaws. The engine looks really nice setting in there. Which Mustang kit is it from? Something else I see that I like is that the grille looks like it will be easily opened up. Forget the GSL! Finish the Falcon!!!

The motor is from the Revell 08 Shelby GT500 kit.

I may just stop and do all the photos for the review, and then build another one.

After building this one real quick, I see some areas where it has to be perfected.

That's one thing about shooting it with this camera in the mini studio.

You really see your flaws!

But, it's nice, and I will be doing a couple more of them.

I took the whole front clip off the Shelby 500 Mustang, and shot pics of it along the way

It's not a drop in fit, but almost.

It was a cool conversion, and you could even get away with swapping out a complete new Mustang chassis under the Falcon, it fits, of course.

I don't know the two-tone got that bleed through, I sprayed clear over the tape before I shot the black.

It may have been the tape, I was trying new pinstriping tape, should have stayed with the Tamiya tape.

My goal was to have it pau for GSL, and enter it.

I'll just bring it and show it off in progress.

Thanks for all the input on this.

I may even try later to do that brushed looked again.

Thanks for the pics, Gregg!!

Based on the pics from your build, I'll be picking up at least one of these...

My first car was a '64 Falcon Sprint. It was white with red interior.

By the time I got it in '72 the 289 was getting pretty tired...but it still ran OK.

A little polishing, wax and some chrome wheels with baby moons really made it look sharp!!

A less 'demanding' scrutiny:

http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/tru/kit_tru_2507.shtml

Although this is not a build critique, it is typical of the 'brochure' type press releases by other mags or sites.

Note that under pros/cons-"Cons-nothing noted". The issues noted here on MCM are not even hinted at. This does a disservice to a modeler who may expect an accurate replica and does not seek further research.

Jus' sayin'...

Even with its 'inaccuracies', it sure does lend itself well to this style of build. To me, not being a Falcon owner but just an admirer of Fords econo-cruiser, this build looks good and does the kit justice.

Will I spend $50 for it....no. Will I wait until it is at a price point that I can afford....yes. It does build up fairly nice with the transplanted parts, Gregg. The 5.4L looks right at home in those fender wells!

I don't know about that... it sure reads like a "review" to me.

The fact that they found absolutely no "cons" is amazing. I mean, I like this kit, but even I can see the various inaccuracies that people have pointed out here. You would think that the completely inaccurate exhaust system, at the very least, should have been mentioned.

Oh well... just goes to show what a great group of discerning and informed modelers post on this forum!

I view it as a review of the kit contents Harry. No mention of fit or assembly issues as Gregg's. My point was the lack of guidance for a modeler from the accuracy standpoint, which can be determined by a look into the box and instructions.

Chuck,

I agree with your comments about that site. Don't know why cars fell off their radar. They used to review some in the past. It's now a completely AC/AFV site-no ships either I think.

Well, I own the mag, the site, the model, I can do anything, yes?

:-)

It started out in the new kit review, which was in that section, then it's on the workbench, with cleaned up threads

Almost finished it, sorry to let y'all down...
