so i decided to turn one of my old builds into lab rat project, i say the paint on this is 7 or 8 years old now with hand done pinstripping. it was a glossy paint job when it was first finished but years and years of dust took a tool on it,it has minor orange peel something im not really concerned in fixing on it but i need to get that old gloss back out of it. figure if i wreck it i can redo it again or build a new one i have 130 built cars whats one missing of the shelf gonna do. i hit it with compound, tamiya fine and the treatment wax.

I've used a wool mop in a Minicraft drill for years to do my polishing,

I use Poorboys SSR2 followed by meguires NXT tech wax.

Whoa. I have a reostat for my dremel but never thought to try this. I really want to hear more about this. Where do you get the "mops"? The reason I don't polish, is that I've burned a few paint jobs with polishing pads and man I hate that. But I do have a couple older builds I'd be happy to try this on.

MORE INFO PLEASE.

LOL, for a minute I thought you said Lab-RAT-ory, and then I ran into the workshop to see if you were there, but it was only EYEGORE at the fire hydrant.

I think you need to do a how-to with this great information.

Yes, the paint is shiny, but the surface isn't flat and you can still see the orange peel in the paint. :D

I think this would be a good method for final polishing, after using polishing cloths/paper to flatten the surface and eliminate any orange peel/roughness/texture.

Guess I'll have to Google how to wire a rheostat. I could go for a tool like this. I'm sure that you'd have to go easy as not to burn through the paint. I see why you'd practice on an old orange peeled build first.

BTW- those hand done pinstripes look good.

Later-
