spkgibson Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Talk about being lucky, Thats nuts! You know he had a load in the pants after that.
Greg Myers Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 looks like the steering shaft broke. i've seen the quick release wheels come loose before on guys, can't be a fun experience at all. looks like thankfully for that guy the car kept going straight and he was able to stop before running into anything. That's what I think

That's what I think Yeah, the shaft broke. The quick release is right on the steering wheel not down on the shaft. Also when he goes to put it back on he stops and looks at it then throws it to the side. It's broken. The good thing about just the quick release breaking or disengaging is that you and still hold the steering wheel down. Edited June 21, 2011 by ra7c7er
Terry Sumner Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I'd like to see an ecternal video of that ride!
ra7c7er Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) the dust was clutch dust Really? Cool. My bad then. edited post. ---- You can see the knob for quick release on the steering wheel where it attaches to the shaft. Obviously well above where the shaft broke. Edited June 21, 2011 by ra7c7er
Romell R Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 He needs to give the guys that setup the chassis a raise . because the car went stright and he didnt need to correct the steering.
disabled modeler Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I would have needed a change of clothing after the ride????? Looks like it was a funny car from the inside of the body.
Drake69 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 That's pretty scary, but NOTHING compares to this one.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ySqb5fN19Y Woman was angry she couldn't pass the trucker, so rather than slowing down and letting him by she grabs her cellphone and records it. Vid still makes me jump... every time.
diymirage Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 (edited) hard to tell but it almost looks like the trailer ran over the 2X4 that was allready on the side of the road (32 seconds) it did kinda startle me but it is a different kinda scared, this is a "what just happened?" scared while the other was a "ok, how im i going to get out of this alive" situation Edited June 21, 2011 by diymirage
highway Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 I would have needed a change of clothing after the ride????? I know I would have, and who knows, maybe he did too!! At least with being in that big racing seat, he saved a trip to the hospital to have the seat surgically removed!!
XJ6 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 i think he did quite well with the situation. panic? hell yeah the steering wheel just came off! keep in mind that happened in a few seconds and he got the car stopped without issue. awesome job on his part IMO. ever lost the brakes in a car before? Yes i agree he did a Good Job..Have i ever lost the brakes in a car?..well No..but Most cars have two braking systems..The Brake Pedal and the Parking Brake, aka "Emergency Brake"...worse came to worse, guess one can throw the car in Park.. But the first thing is to react Quickly..Not Panic...And Turn the Key off..
Erik Smith Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Yes i agree he did a Good Job..Have i ever lost the brakes in a car?..well No..but Most cars have two braking systems..The Brake Pedal and the Parking Brake, aka "Emergency Brake"...worse came to worse, guess one can throw the car in Park.. But the first thing is to react Quickly..Not Panic...And Turn the Key off.. If the driver never trained for such a situation, his reaction is what I would expect. In a situation like this, things happen so fast, your first reaction is automatic and occurs without thought. After he realized what is happening, he shuts off the car and brakes. It's where "train the way you fight so you fight the way you train" is derived from.
Rick Schmidt Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 She's mad at the flatbed cause he's minding his own business ?? Board didn't even come from him any way it obviously came from the direction of the vehicle with the trailer.

Board didn't even come from him any way it obviously came from the direction of the vehicle with the trailer. Right, but she was supposedly angry because the flatbed sped up to keep her from passing him, and then lodged her behind the trailer. She should have just slowed down and CALMED DOWN, and then maybe she might have avoided the board altogether. She was definitely in the wrong for following too closely.

XJ6 Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 i thought the E-brake was only for sharp turn ? Only if you are going in reverse
