Pete J. Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Don't know how to report this but I am having a problem with Spell Check on this site. When I have it correct a word, it really mixes things up. It will put the correct word in the post, but not erase the old word or it will write over some other words. Kind of annoying. If it is just me and I need to reload something, please let me know and give instructions please.
crazyjim Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Didn't even know we had a spellchecker, but now I see the little ABC check. Never used it because AI didn't realize it was there. I click on the icon and it tells me to download something. I guess I'll go back to pretending it's not there.
highway Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Pete, I have the spell check, which is called ieSpell, installed from here and I haven't had any problems. I used it last night a couple of times and worked fine. One thing I have found after using it, though, is you have to watch when you continue typing after checking something while you are posting, because it will stop typing in the reply box and then whatever keys you hit are being read as if you would be holding the control key and if you type "N", next thing you know a new window is opening. I have no clue why that happens, but if you spell check while you are still typing a reply, make sure the cursor line is still there, and if it disappears, just click your left mouse button and it will come back. Also Jim, the reason when you click on the ABC check icon it wants you to download something is because you don't have the ieSpell add-on installed on your computer. It's your choice whether to add it or not, but I found that the ieSpell not only works on this site, but everywhere.
highway Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Thanks Highway. Maybe I'll just do that download. Yeah, it's safe! I know I don't like to download something if I don't know what it is, either, but I have the ieSpell on both my computers. I tested it on my fiancee's computer first to make sure it was safe!!
slantasaurus Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 (edited) one patato too patato. Come on Mike, everyone knows its spelled potatoe.....just ask Dan Quaile. Edited June 22, 2011 by slantasaurus
niteowl7710 Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 If you're accessing this site with Firefox, the built in browser spell check functions just fine. I have to believe that some people are just ignoring the pretty little squiggles under their words, or don't know why they're there. If that is you, right click on the word, and you will be given several choices of things it thinks that gibberish you typed really is; more than likely one of them is correct (or at least more gooder) than the word you assassinated. Ain't gonna do nothin' for your grammar though. So it can't fix the read/red, it's/its, they're/there/their problems.

highway Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 You got me on that one Pete, I've never had mine go nutty, let alone do anything like that!!
ra7c7er Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 (edited) Spell checks are browser based so if spell check is messing up on MCM it should be messing up everywhere for you. Granted I am not a computer wiz so it still could be something in MCM messing with spell checking but it works just fine for me in Firefox, IE and Chrome. I have noticed that in the NEW version of Firefox (5.0) spell check is deleting the blank space after the spell checked word which is annoying but they are already working on a fix for that issue. I will gives you and example of how it messes with my posts. This is the result of running spell check on the prior sentence. Anybody got any ideas on how to fix this? Pete The only thing I can think is maybe somehow your Character encoding was changed from Western to something else and it's freaking spell check out. Spell check wouldn't change words that are already typed correct unless it was reading them as something else, i.e. a foreign language. Edited June 24, 2011 by ra7c7er
Nate Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 If you use the Mozzila Firefox web browser instead of Internet Explorer, it comes with a spell checker built in that works more or less like the spell checker in MS Word. It's a free download.
Harry P. Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 You loose the effectiveness of the Spell-check function in you're post if its filled with words that are correctly spelled but incorrectly used their. I know that never happens here, though... so I could care less.
