crazyjim Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Maybe hard to see in the pics but I painted the car HOK Strattus blue and then on the indentations on the hood and sides, I fogged in HOK Lapis blue. It's subtle, but there. BMF, flocked, wired, plumbed, kit tires with parts box wheels that were shot with Alclad chrome and the spokes painted Testor's Steel. I massaged the headers and exhaust so the collector hook up with the stock exhaust with polished aluminum tips.
Jantrix Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Looks great Jim. Make sure you bring it to Jaxcon next year.
crazyjim Posted July 5, 2011 Author Posted July 5, 2011 Mark, the mufflers are Testor's Red enamel #1103. Looking forward to Jaxcon, Rob. There's a show in Melbourne this month but don't exactly when. The Table Top cruisers are putting it on. And then there's supposed to be a show in Tampa October 14-16 that ties in with the SE street rod nationals. Don't have details on that either, but I thinks it's the MAGS people. Thank you both for your comments.
LAone Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 looks good bud. i like the interior. i thought those muffs were red. do they represent the cherry bomb glass pack mufflers??
crazyjim Posted July 5, 2011 Author Posted July 5, 2011 Thanks. Picked up Model Masters Flat Interior Tan and Raw Sienna for the interior. A long time ago we used some kind of turbo muffler and they were always red. I think the cherry bomb mufflers were round, not oval, but were also red. You think I should have saved that Skyline engine and put in the Charger?
Lownslow Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 i love the interior and body color but what up with the tires they kinda tiny IMO
baumi94 Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Very nice build, but i don't understand why did you paint the exhaust red?
crazyjim Posted July 5, 2011 Author Posted July 5, 2011 Tires are from the kit - parts box wheels. The exhaust system is Testor's Steel. Only the mufflers are red. I've painted the mufflers red on just about every model I've ever built.
Harry P. Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 i love the interior and body color but what up with the tires they kinda tiny IMO Those tires aren't tiny... they're normal size! You know... before the whole "clown wheels" fad... I would add some foil to the vent window frames, though. No Charger ever had those painted body color...
W-409 Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 As Harry said, those tires aren't tiny at all! I like this body model, and buildup looks very good too. Color and paintjob are looking really nice, and engine detailing is good. I'm happy to see one Muscle Car with normal size wheels and tires. Chassis looks good too. Keep them coming.
LAone Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 haha, yeah, turbo mufflers. they were made by cherry bomb. i know the normal glass packs are red and round but they also made/make the square ones too, just not red. i know they make one thats red, but its smaller compared to the turbo ones.
bsoder Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 That is a sweet MOPAR ! and I do remember seeing the red muffs somewhere on somebodys car long ago!
charlie8575 Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I'm happy to see one Muscle Car with normal size wheels and tires. I have to agree 110% with that. Nice job, Jim. That color looks good on the Charger. Charlie Larkin
Flatearthman Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Don't pick on the mufflers, all i could afford back then were the cherry bomb glass packs The expensive one's were painted red also Very nice nice build. Another Charger fan: Good work / excelent detail !!!
crazyjim Posted July 6, 2011 Author Posted July 6, 2011 (edited) Thank you for the comments. I did go over to the Summit Racing website. They have Cherry Bomb mufflers in the round tube shape and flat shape. Both are red. For some reason, turbo mufflers from Corvairs sticks in my head. This might all be a mute point. I've been made aware of mufflers made from aluminum tubing that's used by RC airplane people. It's kind on wing shaped but a little hammering brings it oval. Polish it up (paint it it red), slap a couple pieces of Evergreen on the ends, drill out for the pipes, and you're ready to go. The vent window posts are another story. I can never get BMF to hold on vent posts and I'm NOT going to paint them chrome silver. Edited July 6, 2011 by crazyjim
TheCat Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Hi Jim - That's a very unique color for the Charger. I love the interior detail you've done... awesome!! and I also like the detail in the Engine. All in all, a beautiful build. CONGRATS!!!
LAone Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 haha, jim i missed your comment. maybe the skyline motor would have been good for this...
Lownslow Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Those tires aren't tiny... they're normal size! You know... before the whole "clown wheels" fad... I would add some foil to the vent window frames, though. No Charger ever had those painted body color... its just me but i like muscle cars with beefy tires
David G. Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Excellent work! I like the normal sized wheels and I think the red mufflers are cool! David G.
High octane Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 You did a really nice job on that Charger as it looks great all the way around! I just wish I could get motivated to finish one of my Charger kits.
davyou5 Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 I love these 68' Chargers.. The Color is very unique and suits the Charger well, great interior job too. Awesome! .
