Madd Trucker Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Jim the filters on the frame are fuel filters and your build looks good
Jim B Posted September 25, 2011 Author Posted September 25, 2011 Thanks for the compliments, guys. Yes, Kenworth had their engines painted white until about 1976 or so. As for progress, I've managed to get the cab & hood sealed with the BIN/Zin Sealer & Dupli-Color White Primer; but that's about it.
Jim B Posted April 9, 2015 Author Posted April 9, 2015 I was really hoping to have a better update for you guys on this since it's been 3-1/2 years since I worked on this. Some of that was due to painting issues, but that's neither here nor there. Anyway, since I pulled this one off the "Shelf of Shame" to try & finish it up it has been a real fight! Seems like every time I glue something on, something falls off! I went to glue the cab on, and the left fuel tank broke off causing the hood to fall off. Ok, so the hood wasn't such a big deal as I was going to take that off anyway, but I would have like to do it a little more gently. Then, trying to get the fuel tank back on, the air tank falls off! So I finally get everything glued back on (except the hood), and I manage to get the mirrors, marker lights, & horns on. I go to glue the air cleaners on, and they don't fit! The piping is too short. Not a total disaster since I can't get them to say on anyway, and in working with the air cleaners & piping, the engine breaks loose. Moving on to the exhaust system, I was trying to line up the exhaust tubing with the stacks and the cab falls off. It almost went across the room at that point. So, here is where it's at. I really hope it won't be another 3-1/2 years before the next update. Note air cleaner on the bench & not on the truck! Well, the mirrors, marker lights, & horns look good.
Scalper Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I was working on this same kit till I lost a part. Yours is looking good.
Jim B Posted April 9, 2015 Author Posted April 9, 2015 (edited) Thanks, Andre. It really has tried my patience the last few days. You almost got this one as a parts truck! Edited April 10, 2015 by Jim B
72 Charger Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Nice I will be watching . Where did you get the Alcoa decals from do they come in the kit ?
Guest Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 It almost went across the room at that point. I know that feeling... This will be a sharp looking truck when finished
gatorincebu Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Jim, I am liking what you have done here. As for your heavy handedness??? Maybe you should lay off the testosterone!!!! lol Seriously Even though this project has been on the round to it shelf. When something goes bad. Stop take ten deep breaths, and then scream. Then get back to work. lol be Well Gator
Jonj238 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Anyway, since I pulled this one off the "Shelf of Shame" to try & finish it up it has been a real fight! That sounds EXACTLY like one of my model building sessions! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has problems with the parts staying on the truck. Its going to be real nice when done though.
Mopar - D Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 James glad to see you bring this KW back to the bench. Your progress is coming along now and looks great. I feel your frustration I had the same issues when I was finishing up my car hauler I bet I glud the front axel on 6 different times before it finally stayed on.
Jim B Posted April 10, 2015 Author Posted April 10, 2015 Thanks, guys. I appreciate the kind words. @Dave: The Alcoa Wheels logos came from Scale Model Truck Studios (Kurt McLucas). He used to offer them in blue & black. @Gator: Very funny! I think I have a solution for the right side air cleaner & piping. I'm going to give it a try this weekend. With any luck, it'll work, too. @Jon & Dan: I try not to have too many modeling sessions like the past few on this truck. They're too discouraging!
tbill Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Well geeze Jim, the poor kit feels neglected, thus giving you fits, lol. I know you will get it together, if it'll help, you can use some of my glue....it really bonds well if ya put something on crooked, haha....
Petetrucker07 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I feel your pain Jim. I've had them builds that, at 1 point or another, had a choice of becoming either a bad impression of an airplane or going back in the box. That's how my plated tanker was. But I let it sit for awhile, came back to it and finished it. You get this whipped in no time. What you have done is very nice and looks great.
Tesla Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 It seems when I'm nearing the end of a build, gremlins start removing glued parts....never fails! That's a fine looking build and the finish line is near...you will reach it successfully!
Old Albion Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Jim, This is very impressive indeed. Don't let the problems stop you from completing this, it will be superb when finished.
Jim B Posted April 10, 2015 Author Posted April 10, 2015 Thanks for the compliments, guys. I'm hoping to get some more bench time this weekend.
gatorincebu Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Thanks, guys. I appreciate the kind words. @Gator: Very funny! I think I have a solution for the right side air cleaner & piping. I'm going to give it a try this weekend. With any luck, it'll work, too. Jim, Seriously, You are doing good on thisone. and The breathing thing works. Or do something else to relax and get your mind out of the negative and back into the positive zone! remeber what Mr. Miyagi would say. Focus jim san focus"! be Well Gator
1959scudetto Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Jim, this will be a fantastic looking Kenworth - the paint scheme is soo good looking!!!
Jim B Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 Thanks, guys, I appreciate the kind words. Helmut, I cannot take credit for the paint scheme. The cab, hood, & sleeper were painted by Jim Gavin in Ohio.
kilrathy10 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) Not sure how I missed this one.....Amazing what you find when you're not looking....Great looking project....Oh wait....Now I see....This was posted 4 years ago....Lol....Still a good looking project, though....Are we there, yet???
