slantasaurus Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Collect'em all.......after you win the lottery.
GOTH KUSTOMS Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Thanx for sharing that with us, i have never seen these, even as a kid, truly amazing, tho I wouldnt pay that price for them, but still....
kenb Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I don't think he's expecting to get a million for them. He probably just put that number there so no one bids. Just listed to show them off. If he's an ebay hotwheels seller it could be good advertisement for him. People will look to see what else he has. I didn't look to see if he was a seller. I only pick up a car here and there if it catches my eye as something I like. Usually ends up in my grandsons hands anyway. Ken
Dr. Cranky Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I gave up collecting Hot Wheels a few years back because I realized that I could not own all 15 billion of them. I'd have to buy five houses. The price is a little high on these. LOL.
Jantrix Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 My favorite car is the 66/67 Charger, which Hot Wheels released in '01 I beiieve. So the only thing I collect is various versions/paint jobs of this one car. If anyone has one they are willing to trade, drop me an PM.
my name is nobody Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I started collecting Hot Wheels around Christmas, 1968. when I received a carrying case and a bunch of redlines. The only problem is, I never stopped. the numbers in my collection have become........astronomical. my name is Chuck......................and I'm a diecastaholic........................
Greg Myers Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I also like what I call their "Goofy" drag series. Cars that are drag oriented, but a little on the cartoon side. They don't do these much any more. Sad.
MrObsessive Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I started collecting Hot Wheels around Christmas, 1968. You and I had similar childhoods Chuck, as that's when I got a bunch of Hot Wheels also! Actually, I got them a bit earlier than Christmas of that year........... I believe I got my first one sometime around late spring early summer that year. In fact, IIRC it was an antifreeze Camaro. I started collecting again sometime around '95-'96, but mostly the ones I didn't get as kid..............probably somewhere around 100 or so.
Scale-Master Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 No secret here... Collected and played with 'em since they came out in '68 until more "important" things came along. Got back into collecting and customizing them in '99. Now I just customize and don't waste the money on collecting. I'll keep what I have, including all my originals from childhood (un-customized), but no more collecting...
Ben Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 I have been collecting them all my life. I have most of the originals but my favorites are the Snake and Mongoose stuff. For a while, ever since they started doing it in 1996, I was collecting two of every car in the "First Editions" series. These started out being fairly easy as they were only issuing 12 cars a year. Then the numbers started increasing per year and everyone and their grandma was buying them up just to resell them at a jacked up price! I got sick of fighting for them just to complete my collection. I recently started again when the Drag Strip Demons came out. I bought several cases in order to get at least two of every car. I ended up with five of some of them! They sure are cool though!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ben Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 Thanx for sharing that with us, i have never seen these, even as a kid, truly amazing, tho I wouldnt pay that price for them, but still.... You've never heard of Hotwheels at all????? Wow, I would think it would be very hard not to know what Matchbox or Hotwheels are!!!!!! No matter who I mention it too that I collect them, they know exactly what I'm talking about. Are you from the US originally?

Trust me Chuck, your not alone!!!!!!!!!!! If I were to sell half my collection, I could probably buy two houses and a yacht

I think he meant that he just had never seen that particular model before.
Ben Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 I think he meant that he just had never seen that particular model before. I hope so! I would think anyone that never heard of Hotwheels was living under a rock! But even then, you'd probably find an old Hotwheel buried under there! LOL
samdiego Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 You may not be able to have 15 billion but I know from personal experience that you can have seven or eight thousand.
GOTH KUSTOMS Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) You've never heard of Hotwheels at all????? Wow, I would think it would be very hard not to know what Matchbox or Hotwheels are!!!!!! No matter who I mention it too that I collect them, they know exactly what I'm talking about. Wayne Buck Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I recently started again when the Drag Strip Demons came out. I bought several cases in order to get at least two of every car. I ended up with five of some of them! They sure are cool though!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought those were really cool as well when I saw em. They were selling for 7 bucks or something though... a little too pricey for me. Sometime last year, I was at my local wally world and saw them on clearance for 2 bucks a piece, so I grabbed every one they had left with the intent on keeping a few that I really liked and selling the rest. I still have 20-30 left in the packages. If anyone here is looking for a particular one, pm me and I'll take a look & see if I have it. I have 7 or 8 of the funny cars displayed in my living room. The "Bye-Focals" are pretty neat though.. never saw those before. Thanks for sharing!
Green Duster Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 At that price. I would think, FREE SHIPPING.
ffreak Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I started with them in "68 also when they first hit the shelves. My first one was a red Mustang and a green Camaro ! I played with those things forever. I have tubs of them put away now. I mostly only get the Ferrari's and supercars and gt cars now. Miss those redlines though. My childhood stuff got passed on down to cousins and such when I moved out !!
DanielG Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I know a guy that paid $40,000 for a collection. Some years later he had to leave work for a year at the same time he was having a new house built so had to do some liquidating. He grouped four or five cars together to make $60,000 packages. This was about five years ago and he had no trouble getting his price. House and time off work covered, no problem!
Romell R Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I had the entire original set of HotWheels with the collectors case that was shaped like a Wheel . Mom still has all my hot wheels too (and my star wars figures)been trying to get them from her. she refuses to give them to me. I think its because of all the drool I always have on my shirt from thinking about all the money I'll get selling them.
kitbash1 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Thanx for sharing that with us, i have never seen these, even as a kid, truly amazing, tho I wouldnt pay that price for them, but still.... Wow !!!! Did you have a deprived childhood or what. I thought that every kid in North America knew about and had a few Hot Wheels when they were growing up.
Scale-Master Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I started with them in "68 also when they first hit the shelves. My first one was a red Mustang and a green Camaro ! My childhood stuff got passed on down to cousins and such when I moved out !! Those first two were the same as mine, except the Camaro was orange. Played them to death. But I still have every other one I got since, except the Sizzlers. Only have a couple originals of those. Should have kept them in the round case Romell mentioned. Still have that case with original my Red-Lines!
