Gregg Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Since David Thibodeau is doing the full kit review/build of the new 1/12 Mustang Shelby GT500 in that gorgeous blue, I thought I would do mine in mean and nasty black with the white stripes. I know, more projects! But with more "free time" now thanks to Romell, I can work on the builds, and the mag, without having to babysit anymore.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Looks killer, I hope you keep it going. Drink more Lion Kona and keep it going!
shucky Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Maybe he'll put an ABC Stores sticker on it? Nice so far Gregg!
Mooneyzs Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Nice start Gregg!! Looking good and look forward to seeing progress on this.

weirich1 Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 What will make it Hawiian Style? He lives in Hawaii
LAone Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 good to know that you have some free time to build again. looking forward to some more, cause so far, it looks great.
stump Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Looks great in black too. Still leaning towards blue...... (hoping/wishing that an aftermarket decal set will come, with stripe colour options.... )
Gregg Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 I agree Stump. I am pretty sure there will be aftermarket parts available soon, but I haven't heard any official word yet. If I mess up the clear coat on the black, I may end up redoing the stripes, and doing them in a dark metallic grey, or flat black like I did my 2010 Mustang GT Convertible. I do miss that car sometimes, it was fun for the year I had it. Didn't like filling it up every five days though.
stump Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 I DO like the matt/flat black stripe too, that looks like a neat ride. Inspiration.....?

If you change the color on the stripes, how will you handle the "GT500" logo on the lower front rockers? Also keep in mind, as expensive as a 1:1 GT500 is, the stripes are vinyl and not clear coated....figure that one out......
Gregg Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 Clear coated it today. Not too thick, just enough to protect the decals and still give it that applied over the paint look for the stripes. The motor is painted, have to put the rest of the drivetrain together now.
MicroNitro Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 We need to make some custom wheels for this one. Maybe black centers and polished rims. What do you think?
MonoPed Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Gregg, could you post the pics full size, or at least 800px wide? For some reason, I can't open any of the thumbnails.

MonoPed Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 It's a random occurrence, some thumbs open, some don't...
Gregg Posted September 5, 2011 Author Posted September 5, 2011 Did a quick mock up tonight to see how everything would fit.
MicroNitro Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Hey Gregg, What do you think of wheels something like these?
MonoPed Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 That thumbnail opened just fine - nice paintwork!
