RTK434 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 (edited) After going to the september showdown I was inspired to get back to building. Here is my 69 Nova I'm working on. So far I lowered the front end, added a set of Ma's resins drag radials and started building a set of caltrac bars. More to come sooner than later I hope. Edited November 28, 2011 by RTK434
SuperStockAndy Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Nice to see some of your great building again
Sixx Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Nice work so far!! Those wheels are cool!! I gotta get some of the drag radials!!!
Dr. Cranky Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Beautiful so far, please keep it going . . .
diymirage Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 mhhh pringles sounds so good right now its always nice to see muscle cars on steelies (though usually they are mopars) gonna put a hemi in there ?
RTK434 Posted September 19, 2011 Author Posted September 19, 2011 Jeff, i love how the drag radial sits in the wheelwell which reminds me a lot of how a 275/60-15 can fit into a slightly clearanced 1:1 Nova wheelwell. you've pretty much nailed that perfectly also like the color if the wheels are any indication of what's to come. keep us posted! I used my uncles Nova that i built a few winters ago as referance for the stance. And yes the car will be gold maybe with a white roof. Thanks to everyone else for you comments. I can use the extra motivation so this dosen't end up like my last few started projects.
RTK434 Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 Made a little progress on this one the last couple nights. A set of subframe connectors were added and the rear shocks were moved inboard to better clear the tires. The chassis is painted but still needs some detail painting done. I also modified the oil pan to look like a 6 qt moroso pan and started assembly of the motor. Here's a few pics. Thanks for looking!
Belair2k Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Hmmm, do I need a pair of those drag radials? I think I do! Nice work so far and you've improved the 67 Malibu (?) headers 100%
tyrone Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 this build is looking great, I really like the caltracs, and the oil pan, hell I like the whole thing... keep it up...
mikemodeler Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 This is going to be a nice one. It looks like you are going for the sleeper look with those wheels and I think that is better than putting 22" wheels on it! I remember someone building a replica of a 1:1 Nova here a few months back, modeled after the car known as "Suckers Bet", is that what you are shooting for?

I remember someone building a replica of a 1:1 Nova here a few months back, modeled after the car known as "Suckers Bet", is that what you are shooting for? I guess it could be considered a sleeper but I'm really just going for a modified old muscle car that happens to have steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps. I've always been a big fan of steel wheels for some reason.
LAone Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 nice build. im liking the sleeper look. cheater slicks, moroso pan whats not to like??
RTK434 Posted October 1, 2011 Author Posted October 1, 2011 Installed the motor and trans today and started on the exhaust system. 3.5" with an H pipe and some flowmasters.
Brutalform Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Man...that chassis looks GREAT!! I love the looks of that exhaust with the FlowMasters.
crazyjim Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Scratch built Flowmasters? Nice looking chassis.
RTK434 Posted October 1, 2011 Author Posted October 1, 2011 Scratch built Flowmasters? Nice looking chassis. Thanks! The mufflers are from the old Chezoom kit. I did a little sanding to change the shape a little and added some aluminum tubing for the pipe sections.
crazyjim Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 They look good. Have you heard about using aluminum tubing shaped like an airplane wing for Flowmasters? The tubing can be hammered into an oval shape and Evergreen added to either end.
RTK434 Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 Finally got back to the bench on this one. Since in the 1:1 car world I'm a nitrous guy I figured my model could use a nice plate system. I also started on some wiring and plumbing. This is my first attempt at braided lines and I'm happy with the results so far. Thanks for looking!
Flyboyz1011 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 RTK434 care to ever do a step by step on how you get and engine like that? I love the build I'm building the same car. Not anywhere close to the same level that you are. I got a detail master distributor and I was blown away I got it wired correctly lol. I'm definitely following this.
PlasticWagens Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Jeff- Build is exceptional and has the "right" look for sure. What color / brand of paint did you use for the chassis? Looks to be a semi gloss.
