RyanSilva Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I too hope the plastic is a bit better on this reissue. I got the 1950 ford f150 pickup (the yellow truck one) and the parts had more flash, and much thinner plastic compared to the blue box and the traditional custom versions
Art Anderson Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 It's an OLD tool, goes back to what, about 1963-64? Frankly, it would be far less expensive to do an all new tool for this subject, than to try and correct all the issues typically found in tooling that's nearly 50-yrs old. Art
Dr. Cranky Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 Dr. Cranky may find this inspirational: You betcha! It will be part of the new Lab-RAT-ory schedule as soon as it comes out . . .
Joe Handley Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I'm thinking about it, last one I bought was in red.....and I also found out Krylon primer sucks as a barrier when painting something white....
MachinistMark Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 cant wait to get one of these and jame it togetherer with parts from the new '48....
Dr. Cranky Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 It's finally at the LHS, so I will be picking up a couple, and MODELROUNDUP should also have it by now . . .
Joe Handley Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 It should be in the shops today, we got two of them in today along with the Jungle Jim Vega and a '56 Nomad.
Dave Darby Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 The dash isn't stock either. The kit has a passenger car dash. Pickups had their own dash. The rolling stock from the Revell 40 Ford Standard kit would be a shoe in if you wanted to build it stock, and would definitely be an improvement over what's in there, even if you wanted a rod version. For a stock front axle, I bet the 36 Ford axle would be a direct interchange. This whole thread is kinda making me want to dig one out...
Dave Darby Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 And tell me if this doesn't give you some ideas.... http://www.fastlaner....com/40ford.htm
Joe Handley Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Thanks Dave, I nearly drooled on my smart phone........... LOL!
Chuck Most Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I'm raiding the cab from at least one of them to build a '47. This is one of the few old Monogram Fords I've never built.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 That's why I want them, I want to raid them and build a couple of rat rods, of course.
MachinistMark Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 you may have better luck with the Revell '40 Ford kits as donors for higher detailed chassis and running gear. the only thing there is the difference in scale if that's an issue, i've never tried it so i don't know. i think the MCG flathead parts were done for the larger 1/24 flatheads in the old Monogram kits i wasnt thinking chassis wise i was thinking wheels and tires wise. make a traditional rod out of it. There a Gene winfield built 41 id like to make a clone of. Need rear fenders from the AMT 50 chevy pick up and a bed from a 56 ford to do it though.
MachinistMark Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 in fact, here it is! http://www.kustomrama.com/index.php?title=Jack_Calori's_1941_Ford
Dr. Cranky Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 I just got two in the house, and I opened one long enough to see that they've cleaned up the kit quite a bit. I like the white plastic. I gotta do something with one shortly.
Rob Hall Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 I'm wondering how the stock or custom wheels and tires from the last '50 Ford truck reissue would look, even w/ the scale difference...
Dr. Cranky Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 Looking deeper into the kit, the usual fit issues, flash, etc are still evident, but nothing that will prevent this one from building into a nice model.
62rebel Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 howzabout the chrome reverse wheels and wide whites from the Revell Merc? i love those, but finding the right build to use them on is problematic.
Dave Darby Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 howzabout the chrome reverse wheels and wide whites from the Revell Merc? i love those, but finding the right build to use them on is problematic. I think they would be even better on this truck than in the Merc kit they came in, because the larger lug bolt pattern is more in scale with the truck than with the Merc. Great idea.
MachinistMark Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 the new revell 48's single bar flippers and printed white walls seems like a no brainer for this kit.
Greg Pugh Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Here is one that I've been working over on/off for the last 10 years. I just tinker with it when I'm in the mood.
MachinistMark Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 looks fantastic. on a slightly unrelated note, cana nyone tell me if the bedsides for revells 56 Ford truck are separate from the fenders? and if the fenders for amt's 50 chevy are separate from the bedsides?
