Yes I have one on the shelf, not quite finished, worth every penny! My body shell is in a creamy-beige colour out of the box and I've not painted it!

Isn't there also a "Thing" in this scale, too? Haven't seen one in a long time.

There is/was a companion Karmann Ghia kit in 1/16 scale, but I don't think there were any more Revell-AG variants.

Tamiya did a 1/16 WWII Kübelwagen; there has yet to be a Thing kitted in any scale.

So what's up with the headliner ? Looks like some kind of peel back soft top going on.

The builder has the option of cutting the center section out of the roof and buidling the car with the canvas top opened/folded back.

Yes, another vote to get one in 1/24 or 1/25 scale. I don't normally build larger scales but, may have to get one of these. The smaller scale would probably cost just as much if it ever is released, does that help make the 1/16 sound more like a bargain?

Wow, the price really jumped on this reissue, but it appears to include fiber optic lighting now, so maybe that somewhat explains the 50% price increase over the last reissue?

Technik Features:

  • Dashboard Lights
  • Headlights & Rear Lights
  • "Pope's Nose" rear Light
  • Flashing function for front and rear lights

$184 USD. Not worth that kind of dough. One could buy the electronic components for maybe 10 bucks and install the lighting into 74617488, which is what I'm going to do whenever I get around to it. Tower Hobbies is taking pre-orders for a mere $242.95.

I have this kit at home, and I can tell you; it is not worth the extra bucks on the electronics. Over here in Europe, the latest issue of the 1/16 beetle was about 40 euro's, this issue is about 150 euro's. Which indicates about 100 euro's for the electronics.

Which isn't much really; it has some nice indicating wiring harnesses, a 'motherboard' and a batteryholder and a couple of small LED's, (no fiberoptics though). But no, not worth that much money.

This was a factory option in the day. Either cloth or metal sun roof's.

Here's a better shot of the headliner part on the 1/16 Revell VW Kafer Sun Roof kit:

And the aforementioned 1/16 Revell VW Karmann-Ghia, which to my knowledge, has never been was also reissued in 2013 (Thanks, Daniel):

Yes, 1963 was the final year for the "ragtop" sunroof. The steel sunroof was available from1964 onward.
