Alfa Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Working with rv"s most of my working life I love it. Two thumbs up. way cool.
SoCalCarCulture Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 You might want to check my vintage travel trailer albums for interior and exterior inspiration...
gasser59 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Hey Dave ~that trailer looks like a '54 Airstream Safari. Is it yours? Very nice either way.
kennb Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 Interior is esentially finished and ready for paint. Need to finish the window frames ont he exterior and a few small details and it is ready for paint too. KennB Thanks for the comments and looking.
SoCalCarCulture Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Hey Dave ~that trailer looks like a '54 Airstream Safari. Is it yours? Very nice either way. No, not mine but I keep looking for the right one to park in my backyard and convert to my office!
Mark Box (421sd) Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Very nice work, I have had one similar on the drawing board for a couple of years...yours is awesome and needs a resin '49 Buick wood sided wagon with a straight 8 towing this puppy.
Sixties Sam Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Incredible work, Ken! The finished model will be spectacular, I bet! I love those old trailers. I built a 1:1 teardrop five years ago, and a couple teardrop models. Your model might inspire me to build a similar model. Sam
kennb Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 It is going to primer today, I am all finish with details and ready for color..(not telling yet). The interior paneling is in place as are lights in the ceiling. This has been a fun project and think I might do a few more. KennB
Pastor Plastic Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 It is amazing to me that someone made this from scratch. Seriously why I am sticking with the hobby. I am not on this level now but hope to be someday. Simply incredible. Thanks for the inspiration
01blueedge Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 this is looking good cant wait to see more
Darren B Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 This thing is totally unbelievable, the amount of qaulity on this build is totally incredible, awesome work cant wait to see the finished product.
kennb Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 I have learned one thing.Never paint a whole body chrome It comes out nice but is very fragile and soft. My taping job was not great and have some touch up to do. It will be fine when I am finished. I need to get better tape to do two colors. But it is all I had on hand at the moment. KennB
Scalper Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Great Job so far. this from strips of plastic. Amazing.
Erik Smith Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Really neat project Ken. Almost motivating me to try something...
RodneyBad Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 WOW WEEEEE. Interior looks Amazing.. Great details. Nice and shinie paint too. Ya could've BMFd the whole thing too
kennb Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 (edited) I touched up the red last night. The one thing about the silver is that it takes forever to set up and is still kinda soft. For the next one I will have to find another silver. The interior is almost finished. I am not getting to carried awaysince it will only be seen through the windows. Needs the floor covering and appliances painted yet. I found a correct plate for it on the net,,1946 trailer plate. KennB Edited November 23, 2011 by kennb
Darren B Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 I love campers....and this is going to be a cool build! Some model company needs to issue some camping trailer kits. I agree, there are little to none out there now, I know I would pick up a bunch if they put them out there.
GTMust Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I know you got sidetracked into the 55 T-Bird concept, etc. but I'm drooling to see this one finished Ken. And then...... when you do have all the others done, how about tackling this one? It's a Curtis Aerocar Land Yacht, circa 1932. It's located in the Louwman Museum, which may be somewhere in Holland, but I don't read cyrilic text, so I'm not sure. You may be able to get more pictures and info by contacting the museum at http://m400ru.livejournal.com/4819.html (The car is a 1932 Graham Blue Streak Coupe.) Definitely a oddball and deserving of your scratchbuilding talents. Even if you don't tackle it, it's an interesting camper of the vintage era.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 What a beauty! That thing must be worth a mint!
kennb Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 Looks realy interesting for sure. Thanks for posting it. I have been seartching for a new project. Need something to use my blown hemi in. nice 32 chebby maybe. As for this project I have been slowly painting parts and got the refrigerators and stoves for both trailers painted and chromed. Still looking for the right floor coverings. KennB
