Dr. Cranky Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 All right folks, I know that all you CRANKYHEADS out there have done it, or plan to (like me) use he 66 NOVA kit to rob parts to build other models, in particular street machines. I am looking for ideas, or even better, examples of what you've done. I am in the process of doing a 67 GTO street machine, but nothing further than the two kits sitting on the bench. Can you please post pictures, either of models you've built or reference pictures you have in your collection . . . Thank you in advance. Cheers, El Doctor Cranky
Chuck Most Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 (edited) The Pro Street Nova chassis works pretty well under the snap Rambler kit body- Edited November 17, 2011 by Chuck Most
Craig Irwin Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I haven't built it yet, but I have an AMT 62 (63?) Nova wagon craftsman kit that is going to get a full detail rebuild with the chassis from the 66 kit.
Wayne Buck Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 (edited) Hmmm... tryin' to think. I've know I've parted at least 2 or 3 out for other things because I have two incomplete '66 Nova kits sitting behind me on my "upstairs shelf". I'll post some pics when I figure out the mystery. I'm posting here for now though, because I just wanted to make mention of the super cool engine stand and long block (with heads on and rockers installed, but with no internals... ) that's included in the kit. Still, great dio pieces for sure! EDIT: Was just thinking it's kinda funny how I've bought around five of those kits with the sole intent of building a tubbed version, and still have yet to complete one in that configuration! IMHO, when it comes to the world of 1:1, the '66-'67 Novas are the coolest looking cars when slammed to the ground and tubbed... The '55 Chevy comes in a close second for me. P.S. That Rambler looks GREAT, Chuck! Edited November 17, 2011 by Wayne Buck
Chuck Most Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Oh, forgot this one... Jo Han '61 F-85 4-door wagon converted to a sedan delivery and, you guessed it, plopped down upon a '66 Pro Street Nova frame.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 These are great examples. You know ever since I got back into the hobby I always had heard of the versatility of the 66 Nova, and it wasn't until recently that I heard Donn Yost mention it in terms of being a great kit to rob parts from, mainly the engine and the chassis, and the wheels, etc . . . I do that to the 41 Willys and 32 Ford quite a bit. It only makes sense, but the reason behind a thread like this is to not only discuss the possibilities, but also show the results. Great results on both of those builds, Chuck.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 I'm willing to bet it would fit under one of these . . . I love this vehicle.
mikemodeler Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I have stockpiled several of this kits Doc "just in case" ! I get them at Hobby Lobby with the 40% off coupon and they end up being about $11.00 or so. The chassis, wheels and engine are quite nice for use in other kits.
berr13 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 (edited) Though I've only test-fitted them, the headers in any of the Nova kits appear to fit any of the Revell 55/56/57 Chevy V8s. They fit the Revell chassis, and seem to snug up under the body like they were made for it, with a very in-scale appearance. It's a nice kit, the '66 Nova...now if someone would just make a '64 Nova SS! Edited November 17, 2011 by berr13

Let's see some pictures of 'em!
Dr. Cranky Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 I gotta go check my local Hobby Lobby and see if they have more. I already bought the ones they had at Hobby Town.
Guest Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 (edited) Two of these only use the back half of the chassis. The purple and yellow Nova uses the entire chassis. The Camaro was my first kitbash and is a very old build. Edited November 17, 2011 by plowboy
Dr. Cranky Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 Wonderful. Yes, I am happy to note the 66 Nova chassis goes in well with the 69-72. This is all very exciting and new for Doctor Cranky!
Chuck Most Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Now, if only they would reissue the '67 Chevelle Pro Street kit!
Chuck Most Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Oh- the 'Rides Magazine' reissue of the '66 Nova has the Pro Street chassis as well, but you are on your own as far as tires go. The Resto Mods version had the stock style chassis, interior, engine bay, etc.
LoneWolf15 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Now, if only they would reissue the '67 Chevelle Pro Street kit! Chuck , It was re released awhile back , short limited run , but they did bring it back. I still prefer the Revell version , it has the most authentic rear suspension setup out of all of the prostock / prostreet kits . The only bad part of the kit were the wheels , definitely a candidate for the Lee sister family ! The Rides edition had the pro street frame , problem being , the glass work in the kits were poor , and that's being kind ! Otherwise , a fabulous parts kit that lends itself to a whole bunch of subjects ! On a similar note , the back half of the AMT Pro street Superbee is a perfect fit under any of the Revell Tri- Fives and a whole lot of other kits ! Better yet , the kit has quite a few other quality parts to be scaveged for other builds !
Casey Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Now, if only they would reissue the '67 Chevelle Pro Street kit! Did you leave out the "already" at the end? If not, the kit is being re-issued next year. BTW, did the P/S '67 Chevelle kit include Mickey Thompson or Moroso tires? Or a combination of both?
mikemodeler Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Hey, Mike? Let's see some pictures of 'em! Pictures? Ha Ha Ha Chuck!!!! I have about 6 of these Novas, going back to when it was first introduced about 10 years ago. I have a resin 66 Nova Panel Delivery that I am planning on putting this Nova chassis under- if I ever get around to it! I have yet to start building one of these but if I do, I will take pictures!
Chuck Most Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 If you look at the most recent reissue, you'll see it still has the 7" LCD TV monitors from the Rides issue in the backs of the bucket seats, and that four-gauge panel on the dash was another LCD screen in that issue. If you get the Rides issue, in addition to the pro street chassis you get a stand-alone LCD display, a laptop computer, a PS2 and a controller for it. I routinely hoard those PS2 controlers as there was an air-suspension controler with the same shape.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 Delighted to hear it is being re-released.
Chuck Most Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Delighted to hear it is being re-released. Last I knew it was still in the AMT catalog- it's just molded in blue now.
Danno Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Here's one I really should drag out and finish.
Guest Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Did you leave out the "already" at the end? If not, the kit is being re-issued next year. BTW, did the P/S '67 Chevelle kit include Mickey Thompson or Moroso tires? Or a combination of both? Actually neither Casey. The Chevelle comes with Firestones for the rear and the old Michelin TRX tires for the front. The Thunderbird,Corvette and Beretta (don't know about the Lincoln LSC) come with the same rears, but Moroso skinnies for the front.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 Danno, I really like that. Yes, you should finish it pronto.
