maltsr Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Time to try getting the red on the body Good luck Jonathan, don't forget to apply a light spray of clear to seal the edges of the tape before applying the red. Mitsi is looking good too, what shade of blue is it going to be?
martinfan5 Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 Thanks Paul, well I forgot to clear coat the tape edge, but I got lucky this time, and only had some bleed thru on the hood and the rear window area, but nothing I can not fix. So when the red as cured , I will mask off and do the black . And for the Evo, here it is in paint, I used Model Master Lacquer GTS Blue, I really like this blue.
maltsr Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Much better Jonathan, hope the fix is easy. The Mitsi looks great too, nice shade.
Scuderia Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Lookin' good Jon, you really are doin some slick stuff lately. As for me I decided to crank out this Ferrari 512 I picked up at the swap meet a few weekends back. This one was partially started so I decided to lay some spray to the engine assembly first. Once this is dry I'll get in with a brush for some diff colored bits, and the axle there.
martinfan5 Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 Paul and Lawrence, thanks guys Lawrence, the engine is looking good, what colors did you use?, or did you do a wash?
Scuderia Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 no problemo! and the colour on the assembly there is Perfect Match Ford Medium Charcoal Metallic. Once it dries its not sparkly like the name might suggest which is good for this sort of thing. The side covers need to be red but my flat red in the jar is dried up. I'm not sure if it will be seen once the body is on either so i'll keep you posted on that decision. I also used perfect match Hyundai Light Slate Metallic on this suspension assembly. And I masked up the doors and got some semigloss laid down. The rest will be Painters Touch "Fossil".
martinfan5 Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 Doing a great job so far, looking reall nice and clean, cant wait to see more, those colors you are using are nice
Scuderia Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 (edited) Thanks Jon, just got back from the local hardware store. They have overpriced kits and and testors paints. Ima do the heads red today as well as finish up the interior tub. Yesterday I also cut my right thumb Today got the engine detailed with some other parts painted Edited May 27, 2012 by Scuderia
martinfan5 Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 That is a beatiful looking engine, great job on it. I got the Evo clear coated, but I think it needs one more wet coat. Started working on the chassis And I got the black on the R34
Scuderia Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Thats some nice work goin on. That GTR is sexy for sure. Just be careful on the evo of the "I think it needs one more coat" curse lol.
martinfan5 Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 Thats some nice work goin on. That GTR is sexy for sure. Just be careful on the evo of the "I think it needs one more coat" curse lol. Yea I know what you mean, I used the same paint, clear on both the Shelby and the Evo, but the Evo has more shine to it.
Scuderia Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 (edited) hehe right on both are looking outta control, and the detail and finesse in your shelby off the chart. I'll edit this post... I did a little more on various parts of the car earlier. The pre-assembly aspect made it a real pain in the behind at times. Edited May 28, 2012 by Scuderia
martinfan5 Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 (edited) That is a great looking engine, , pre assembly ? Edit- I am debating if I want to mask off the R34 and do another coat of white , hmmm Edited May 28, 2012 by martinfan5
Scuderia Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 haha thanks a bunch.. yeah i got the kit open box and partially assembled. Unfortunately whomever did so did not do it according to the instructions. So I had to tight-rope a few areas on the powerplant. On the R34 note, keep in mind the advice i had earlier. lol
martinfan5 Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 I went and picked up a can of the testor one coat wet look clear, and added one more coat to the Evo. Not sure what I want to do with the wheels, here is how they come, they are shiny, the pic does not show it very well, but I am thing of sparying the wheels with a flat black , what do you think ?
sports850 Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 I'd say a charcoalish colour for the wheels (I have the 1:1 standard 2wd version of the Lancer that is that model evo , dark grey metalic paint and I've been looking at charcoal or gunmetals wheels for it) , but otherwise would suggest flat black . The FJ has had a few paint issues with the pinstripes so touching up at present , should have an update soon .
martinfan5 Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 I like the colors you suggested, I do have some gun metal on hand, I think there is enough left in the can for the wheels, and I just picked up a jar of testor graphite metallic , will have see what it looks like.
martinfan5 Posted May 29, 2012 Author Posted May 29, 2012 Didnt get a lot done today on the a Evo, but I did get the brakes done and the rear suspension/axle
maltsr Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Looking great, Lawrence & Jonathan Just to show I haven't been idle, the decals arrived from Oz and got the first few on the bonnet (hood). They aren't particularly smooth, so will need clearcoating to bring out the colour.
martinfan5 Posted May 29, 2012 Author Posted May 29, 2012 Paul, the chassis looks great, love the detail work you did on it, I can see what you mean about the decals.
Scuderia Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Thanks and that Alfa is raging. That's awesome stuff After all done the decals should be alright, keep it up!
martinfan5 Posted May 31, 2012 Author Posted May 31, 2012 Got a little bit more done on the Evo, I did do one clear coat, this time I used testor's one coat wet look clear, I have painted some the black trim, the rear bumper , front vents. Started work on the interior as well
