Craig Irwin Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Formula 1 is my favorite sport, and the way F1 handled that weekend is one of the reasons I love it so much. They lost hundreds of thousands of potential fans that day.
RancheroSteve Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Here's a McLaren (Revell Germany kit) from a few years ago that I built: And a Jordan (Revell Germany kit): And another Jordan (Wave kit): More here: http://public.fotki.com/Roullier/model_cars-1/f1_and_f3000_cars/
Pete J. Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 With all repect, that's exactly why I no longer follow it. And never did football, while we are at it. I'm not a bloodthirsty vulture, but there must be at least something left for the rproportion of mankind that is willing to take a risk. Thanks god that there are forms of motorsports (and other sports) left, where this is the case and thanks god that I was and am able to participate in some. I am certianly not implying that you are bloodthirsty, but I really started to appricate F1 in the early 60's and I remember following the sport and hearing about my heros meeting an early death and it almost turned me away from F1. I was especially hard hit when Jimmy Clark went into the trees in a F2 race. He was a supurb driver and had the accident happend on a modern circut, he probably would still be with us. It was indeed a time of iron men. When I see the movie Gran Prix, there is a scene with a drivers meeting and all the F1 drivers of the era are there. Many of them did not live much longer after that. Frankly the cars of that era were also death traps. Can you imagine driving a race car without seatbelts because you wanted to be thrown clear in the event of an accident. Brave to the point of foolheartyness, but I still admire them. I just don't want to see a return of that kind of racing but I am glad it was a part of the history.
cruz Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I have done a bit more work on the model, since the thread's been so interesting, I will take advantage and use it to share some of the project. Hope it continues, I am having a lot of fun with this build! Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
edward smith Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 Well Edward, Seems you got quite a thread started here. Pity it is more about F1 than the actual models. I am enjoying the pics from Darin and Marcos. I have several more Tamiya kits to build. 2 in the 1/12 scale. Pricely but good stuff. Hope this thread lasts until I start them Have you decided on a kit? Hope you will post. Good luck. Dave Thanks Dave but, after seeing how good of a job Cruz is doing on this thing, I am seriously considering giving my kit to him so that he can build it. Hopefully we can come up with something, I certainly don't have the talent he has to build mine, specially with the decal part of it.
brad4321 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 They lost hundreds of thousands of potential fans that day. No doubt they did. But it doesn't matter to me one bit how many fans any sport has. That day made ME more a fan of Formula 1 because I believe a sport is a sport before it's entertainment. And the FIA that weekend made the right choice instead of doing something stupid just to appease all the fans that showed up.
Scale-Master Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 There may be more F1 content here than appears at first glance... Here are some I have done recently. The first is from a kit provided by our own Gregg-the-big-Kahuna... http://www.modelcars...fw&fromsearch=1 http://www.modelcars...us&fromsearch=1 http://www.modelcars...ll&fromsearch=1 This one is still in progress, but I was working on it yesterday even so... http://www.modelcars...opic=25777&st=0
DavidChampagne Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Scale-Master, They look great. I have the transparent version of the Willams to build. Thinking about painting one side, leaving other side clear. Built a 1/20 Tyrrell 6 wheeler. Have the 1/12 version to build. Have the 1/12 Maclaren also. I also have about 8 or so more F1 kits and 3 Ferrari street cars to build, all Tamiya. Dang, I need to finish my 1/16 Tommy Ivo dragster and get back to my F1 cars. One question though- I only buy the Tamiya F1 kits. Fortunately, I have a good job and great wife so the price of these kits has never been an issue. Are there other kits of similiar quality out there? I am reposting links to my F1 builds. These are more 1/12 and 1/8 builds: http://s1103.photobucket.com/albums/g473/davidchampagne/F1/ My 1/20 builds: http://s1103.photobucket.com/albums/g473/davidchampagne/More%20F1/ Edward, try the build yourself..you may be surprised. Dave
Greg Myers Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 My view of f1 today. I don,t enjoy it as much as I did back in the 80's. and I am sure that the people who use to watch f1 in the 70's will say their era was better....so I expect generation gaps in every subject. but when you are a car entusiast, I don't care what era they are. Love the history, love the evolution of them and love how tecnology have made them saver. Glad to see Lotus back. and using their retro colors. Hope to see a race at Austin, TX one day. In the meantime let me build my 1:24 dream cars and enjoy them. Yes .You got that right. I agree.

Dave Hasegawa and Fujimi have some excellent 1/20th F1 kits readily available, found them to be more detailed than Tamiya should find them with a simple Google search

meaneyme Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Hey Cruz, nice job, I have a question? Did your kit have any defects on the tires? Mine are all off-centered. Would this be something Revell might replace at no cost?
cruz Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Yes Kevin, I see I am not the only one with this issue. I have one front and one rear with the exact same defect. I have already contacted Revell, you can fill an online parts replacement form with them. Just go to Revell.com and follow the instructions.... Hosted on Fotki
