Joe Handley Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I managed to find this in by accident while looking for something and would like to throw it on RC Crawler since the 1/20 truck kits work so well for the Losi Micro Crawlers and was wondering what a fair asking price would be for it. Anybody have suggestions?
RodneyBad Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Personally, I think they're worth $10. Some people would pay more and most would pay less. But that's my thought?
Joe Handley Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 They seem to be on ebay for at least $20 for most of the 1/20 trucks, and foun. d this one for $50.....why it's that pricey, I do not know
Chuck Most Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 If you see them going for between 20 and 50, if I were selling it, I'd go for something like $35. Probably more than I'd pay for that particular kit, but remember, you can always reduce the price later if there is no interest. My rule of thumb when I sell stuff is- 'Never price it higher than what I'd pay for it myself.'
Joe Handley Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 That's what figure, $30-$35 or trade for a "L-Trail" chassis for another r/c project I want to do this winter....this one Your pricing idea is a good one but there is one problem, I wouldn't pay the $12 I paid for this one to get a real one! I picked it up for a friend who changed his mind (and still hasn't changed it back) before getting it.
Erik Smith Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 EBay search yielded 9.99 with no bidders. One completed listing 20.00 with no bidders. Also a policed version 19.99 with free shipping buy it now, still available. So, $35 may be high. Doesn't seem to be too desirable.

The Lindberg 1/20 scale kits aren't all that desirable from what I've seen, except for maybe the Nissan and Toyota Dually pickups.
Junkman Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I would not sell it. You get the proverbial peanuts for it, if you are lucky. Those wonderful 1:20 kits are still grossly underrated. I did the opposite of what you have in mind, and accumulated them whenever I could find them. Cost me next to nothing. After years of simply ignoring them in some box, I now cherish them and I know their day will come.
Joe Handley Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 Actually Christian, that's why I was going to put it on RCC, we've pretty much got no desire in our community for them, but the guys building micro scalers like to use them since they'rd so close in size to the axles available.
Maindrian Pace Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I've got the police Explorer, and absolutely no idea what to do with it. -MJS
Pete J. Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Bluntly, it isn't worth anything until you have a buyer. The trick with an auction like ebay is set a starting point low enough to get peple interested but not to low to get less out of it than it is worth to you. General rule, what would you pay for it an start it at about 20% less, hoping that you get at least two buyers who are willing to get in a fight over it. All the time, you are rolling the dice. You really don't get to set the price.
route66modeler Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 HI, Gray07 likes 1/20 stuff. I like the tires in those kits, going to put them on a 1/24 40 ford p/u ratrod project. Steve

So that kit is yours?? I was a little confused last night when you first posted this thread whether you were getting rid of it or trying to buy it, but since it now sounds that you have it, I have a couple questions for you. Are the decals good in it? If they are, is there a way you could scan them for me? I received one of these exact kits in a trade and the decals have a couple scars in them from where the tires had been on top of them. All I need is a scan, I'm able (well after I start actually doing it anyway ) to print my own decals. Oh, and just my opinion on the whole worth subject, if nothing else start high and lower the price if there is no interest. As Erik had said, it looks like even $10 is too much for most, but it all depends on the buyer. The one I just mentioned I got in a trade for a bed to the Midnight Cowboy Chevy wrecker, which I had gotten from a friend for nothing, sent to trade for the Explorer, and got the Explorer, so you could say I spent $5 for it for the cost of shipping the wrecker bed. That's not to say I wouldn't bid on the $20 police version Erik mentioned, and if I had the spare cash right now I'd be on my way to ebay , but to me being someone that is interested in the subject and not a Scale Nazi and would turn away from it just because is not 1/24 or 1/25 scale. When these kits were new way back when and before I lost them in a house fire in 1997, I had almost every kit in the 1:20 scale series, and been slowly trying to get most of them back into the collection.
Joe Handley Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 The kit in the picture is mine, and it's still in the plastic since I had no intrest in building it mainly because I have no intrest in the 1/1 trucks.
Austin T Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 To me Lindberg kits arn't worth the plastic there made from because of the poor poor quallity of their kits.I got their 3n1 T-bucket and hated it because it needed so much extra work.

So, is there a way you could possibly scan the decals for me? It would be greatly appreciated.

Really think basing your opinion of a kit manufacturer based on one kit is fair? Check out the newer tool Lindberg kits- the '53 Fords, '61 Impala, F-150s and yes, even these 1:20 kits. They're leaps and bounds better than the old hot rod kits. The current Charger/Super Bee/Police Car kit is one of the best kits on the market.

These are from a different era entirely Austin, don't knock Lindberg just because of that old piece of trash. Many of Lindberg's older issues that surprise us as a reissue (like the horrible junk 32 Ford 3n1 I bought) are quite poor in quality and very toylike, because they were motorized toys to put together. The kits they released in the 90s and beyond are leap years ahead of the junk, as these underappreciated 1:20 scale kits are. I'm not saying these are the greatest kits on earth, but they offered some nice subjects no one else has ever offered in any scale to my knowledge, such as the 90s era Nissan Hardbody pickup and the Pontiac Firebird Firehawk edition in addition to the Explorer seen in the opening post. The same thing goes for some of the 1;25 offerings in the mid and late 90s. What other model companies do you know of that made kits of the Dodge Caravan, Dodge Dakota, and Chrysler Cirrus, not to mention the Ford Crown Vic patrol cars?? Yeah, they were all curbsides, but interesting subjects and nicely done in my opinion. Then, again in my opinion, they hit a home run with the new Dodge Chargers, both the police and non police versions of the kits. Pick up one of the new Chargers and you'll be amazed how different the Lindberg of today is compared to the early motorized toy days.
martinfan5 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I have always like the lindberg kits from the 90's and Highway right about the lindberg police Charger kits, I have built six of them so far, and there with out a doubt a very nice kit.
Roadkill2525 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 You also have to factor in that Lindberg picked up molds from Pyro, Palmer, IMC and Testors.
Austin T Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Ok well I got that 1 kit and didn't want to waste my money on another one so I never gave 'em a second chance. One kit they came out with that really looks cool is the little red wagon semi hauler.I'll just have to pick a second one up then.
Chuck Most Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 That's an ex-IMC kit. It can be a bit fiddly to assemble, but it's a pretty good kit.
