slantasaurus Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 I can't believe that nobody has posted anything on the news story that has a huge impact on the hobby. Doesn't anybody know ??? http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/main/round-2-llc-acquires-iconic-model-kit-brands
SuperStockAndy Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 I thought Round 2 already had those brands?
mr cheap Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 wow thats big .... does this mean the prices are going up or down
Evil Appetite Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Thats awesome...I'm hoping they'll re-release my all time fave kit, MPC's 1/20 Saber Vette. I also wouldn't mind the PL NASCAR and Funny Car kits being released.
moparmagiclives Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 I thought Round 2 already had those brands? Me too, I guess I miss understood the article about round 2 that came out a wile back. I thought they were buying everything then. I cant imagine a company spending money like that will drop the product cost though. Not for a wile anyway.
SteveG Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 I doubt this move will have any effect the retail pricing. It does show that Tom Lowe and Round2 are making a long term commitment to the Hobby industry. I expect they'll be doing more with all the brands now that they own them (and the tooling) vs leasing. -Steve
Chuck Most Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Guess this means a clean break from RC2 (or whatever they're called this week). Awesome!
Nick Notarangelo Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 the price's might stay the same but this will give them more range of what they can bring out to the mass's and more on quaility control so this is a awesome thing.
PatRedmond Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 It means they own the tooling and names. RC2 sold the tooling during their tenure to Tomy and were LEASING it back. Round 2 owns it all again.
Rob Hall Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 It means they own the tooling and names. RC2 sold the tooling during their tenure to Tomy and were LEASING it back. Round 2 owns it all again. I thought Round 2 was leasing the tooling from RC2...RC2 was bought by Tomy, IIRC.
crazyjim Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 So what does it really mean? New releases? Reissues of some old junk? What?
Chuck Most Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 For me, it means supporting Round 2 (which I want to do) doesn't mean supporting RC2 by proxy (which I do NOT want to do) anymore. I'm really glad to hear this, as it seemed RC2 was doing everything they could to kill the AMT/Ertl and Polar Lights brands when they had sole control.
SuperStockAndy Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 So what does it really mean? New releases? Reissues of some old junk? What? It means more General Lee models on the forum.
Rob Hall Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 It means the AMT, MPC and Polar Lights brands have a future.
crazyjim Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 It means more General Lee models on the forum. If that's really the case, then I don't care. I've seen enough General Lee's, thank you very much.
Dragline Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 An Industry coup in my opinion. The future is indeed bright fellow modelers. Exciting. Bob
Chuck Most Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Incidentally, a little research revealed that RC2 was sold to TOMY earlier this year. One of the reasons RC2 sold out was its stock took a huge hit due to publicity over some of its Thomas the Tank Engine toys that were manufactured in China being recalled due to unacceptably high lead levels. Poetic justice as I see it- RC2 let the model kit end of their business languish, mostly by all but elimintating quality control. And it was a quality control issue that caused them to slip into a bit of a financial pickle, paving the way for the sale of the AMT/MPC/PL brands lock, stock, and barrel to Round2, a company which is pretty much run by modelers. Who says there are never any happy endings?
Danno Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 It means more General Lee models on the forum. Yikes!! Say it ain't so!
