SuperStockAndy Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Alright, so my favorite band is Rush. Neil Peart (the drummer) said in a video he builds models. If I can find the video again I'll post it up, I forgot what it was called.
SuperStockAndy Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 That's sweet, I'll have to look into that
Dr. Cranky Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I doesn't surprise me. Rod Stewart has a multi-million dollar train layout in HO. He's train crazy like we are model crazy. And some of us (ahem, ahem) are crazy about trains and model cars!
SuperStockAndy Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 BTW,, do you know what YYZ stands for? [without looking it up] No I don't, but I'll look it up anyway
Chuck Most Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I understand neil Young owns Bachman trains. [the company, not just a layout, , or at least a part of the company] He also came up with Trainmaster Command Control for Lionel trains in the mid 1990's. Michael Gross (the dad in 'Family Ties' and Burt Gummer in the Tremors movies) is also a big-time scale railroad enthusiast.
Scalper Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 (edited) yyz is pearson airport in toronto and i did not look it up. Edited December 6, 2011 by Scalper
Dr. Cranky Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Wow, I did not know that about Neil Young. That's very cool. Which means he gets to have the new products for free!
JamesW Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 The VanHalen brothers used to build when they were young also. I believe one of them still does. Eddie still builds. He was the one that actually approached Testors about making a kit of his truck (before he sold it).
Scalper Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Don't count, You'r from TO. I also work right accross from it other side of the 401 I can watch planes land on my breaks.
mikemodeler Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 It was my understanding that Neil Young rescued Lionel trains from the brink of bankruptcy and also as a means to help his children who suffer from Cerebal Palsy (IIRC). He viewed it as something that had value to many people worldwide and he wanted to keep that spirit alive. Does not surprise me that Neil Peart is a builder- he is a perfectionist when it comes to his drumming and song writing so it is only fitting that he has a hobby that fits his personality.
Joe Handley Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I've seen Micheal Gross a few times at IHobby over the past few years, Bachmann includes dvd with somd of their train stuff that hd is in as a host. I've also heard that Joe Perry from Aerosmith is also s big train guy too. I didn't know Bruce Dickenson was jnto trains too, he is a big time plane person like John Travolta though. I've heard he actuallt flies for a major airline.

And yes, Bruce is a pilot for British Airways when he isn't fronting Iron Maiden.
Scale-Master Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Frank Beard used to be, don't know if he still is, a collector of high quality hand built 1/43 car models. If you don't know what little band he's from you probably aren't much of a rock & roller... I remember the "Van Halen truck", it was not allowed to be referenced as such though. I had to remove the title text from the art when I drew that sheet ...

scalenut Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Rikki Rocket of Poison fame builds and flys High Power Rockets (my other hobby)
Joe Handley Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Lol BEARD... ZZ TOP MAN.. I will have the taco. Always thought it was funny that he was the only one of the three that didn't actually have a beard. Any of you guys ever see pics or video of the before the beards? I swear Billy Gibbons looked Elwood Blues in one old concert I watched on YouTube.

If I would be on that flight, for some reason I would want to be mentally prepared for an intense flight....not sure why.
Hawk312 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 All these stars into the hobby or a related one, So the question is, how many of them might lurk on the forum from time to time...

Draggon Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Travolta has a multi-engine aircraft license as well as a commercial license that allows him to fly jets. For those not in the know, it is a huge undertaking. I have a glider and private pilots license to fly single engine aircraft. It took me 2 years to get that far. Multi-engine is a couple years past that, and commercial jet is a world past that. One would have to have a whole lot of commitment to get that far. Sorta puts those of us who like snap kits in out place!
Tonioseven Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 John Travolta is registered as a pilot for Qantas (spelling?).
