Ive keep getting more models and more saying iam going to build them someday, i build maybe 2-3 models a year. Around 2004 i had around 1500, i dont know how many i have and dont remember what i have, Heres a few pictures of my model room, every box every tub has models in it, and theres tubs behind alot of these. So when is it to many, my wife wants me to start building them but they keep bringing other models out that look cool and i cant go without. Is anybody else like that.

I have close to 1400 kits myself, plus all the supplies to go with them.

P.S: If you feel like getting rid of some, I will take that Monogram 'Cafe Racer' Mustang pictured! ;)

I realized about 4 years ago that i had more than i would ever build. So every year at our contest i sell abunch off. i still buy some of the new ones that come out but just stick to the subjects i want to build.

I think it is called obsessive compulsive disorder...OCD...but I'm no expert...I have tried to pare down my 'stash' with limited success. I plan on taking some time in the new year to go through my kits and decide what I want to keep and what I'm willing to sell and go from there. It will be a tough task, but I have come to the conclusion that I have more kits now than I could possibly build in my lifetime, even if I built 12 per year (which I don't, though I've now finished 10 for 2011). It's tough to be a model builder...especially when they keep releasing (and re-releasing) cool kits!!

Yeah, I don't know about crazy stashes like that. A wall of models would hang over me and make me feel guilty everytime I played a computer game. I have 50 kits and it suits me fine.

I would have 1500 too if it weren't for financial constraints. 10 years ago I sold half of my then 300 kits but I'm back to over 250 again. Quite a few of these are replacements for the ones I regretted selling.

I've become quite comfortable with the fact that I'll never build them all and have learnt to like them equally in pieces in the box. In fact the boxes themselves are a big part of the appeal for me and often the deciding purchase-factor.

Hey if you need any help I can take some of those off your hands. :D I have the same problem two I started modeling in march of 09 and I have 40 kits.I have more model and paint stock than my local hobbytown.

It's a perfectly legitimate question, and one that most of us who build struggle with. My wife every once in a while takes a peek inside the garage (I mean, Lab-RAT-ory!) and mentions that Hoarders show. I have to get rid of some of my kits. Then again I say that every year. LOL.

To keep it short... YES!!!

We had a discussion like this about a year ago (or so)... and someone got a kick outta this pic, so I'll share it again for you guys:

Gotta go drop the kid off at school... Be back in a bit. ;)

At one point while I was heavy into vending at swap meets I had well over 10,000 kits. That is way too much. But I'm now down to a few hundred, and even though it still is a lot I like that when the time comes for a new project I have a lot of model to choose from. It doesn't cost me money to keep them so me and my wife are fine with that.

Maybe it's the wife you need to get rid of!!!

A lot of us suffer from buying more kits than we can possibly ever hope to build. I know that I can look at my collection of nearly 300 (or more, kinda lost count) kits and tell you what my plans are for each one. While that is all good, truth is I haven't sat at the workbench in 3 months because life, work and family have taken priority. I am envious of those of you that can get to the bench and crank out a model or two (or more) per month when I struggle to get a couple done a year!

I have always said that as long as my hobby doesn't prevent me from paying my bills or feed my family, another kit or twenty won't hurt! It also helps to have a supportive wife who realizes that my dream of a 32 Ford Hot Rod or '68 Camaro Z-28 will happen in 1/25 scale and not 1:1 and will be much cheaper. She also knows that if I am at the workbench, at least I am not out drinking and doing something stupid.

I know I need to "thin the herd" so to speak and will probably look to get a table at the next show to reduce the collection but that will only serve to create more space for Revell's 2012 releases!

Now that's funny! I get the same "Hoarders" comment from mine every once in a while!

I can totally picture Cranky on the show in tears as they're trying to convince him to put his '50 Chevy pickups out in the lawn for sale.

You guys make it sound as if it was a bad thing.

It is called 'collecting'.

The majority of the 2000+ kits I have are part of my model kit collection. Comparatively few of them are intended to be built.

I also collect diecasts, real cars, and bicycles.

This is not a disorder or anything. This is a collection, which is motivated by the same appreciation for form and function, as is collecting art or artefacts.

AMEN!

Very well stated. ;)

I have maybe 25-30 at this point, but I keep BUYING MORE. There's always something else out there, be it an all new kit or a discontinued kit, that I see that I get a great idea for. So I either bring it home or hit the BIN button on Ebay. Then it ends up sitting on the shelf for a couple years before I even touch it, IF then.

The only thing really stopping me from gettin down to business right now is the lack of detail parts I need to order from ScaleDreams. I have a cart started over there with over $100 worth of stuff just waitin for the $ to fall into my Paypal account.

I think if I had even HALF the kits some of you do my wife would divorce me.

The kits were there FIRST. Then I got married. She either accepts the whole package, or walks.

Old hot rod adage : If'n some is good, then more is better, and too much should be just about right.

LOL! I remember that thing!

I bet his front springs weren't very happy that day...
