dpride Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I guess I might as well make my first post a big one (1/4 scale). Here are some photos of my almost finished model. I still have a few parts and weathering to do. Most techniques have been used in this one: styrene sheet (body), 3D printing (wheels and rear tire walls), and steel and alloy for the frame and suspension. I started off building 25th scale when I was about 8 years old and have been building models ever since.
eviltwincustoms Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 First off welcome to the forum... Now that is cool, chopped and channeled 32. Just amazing work and even in 1/4 scale... Great work!
W-409 Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Your Hot Rod looks... Amazing! That detailing on the engine is incredible, and overall look is very sharp too. Wheel and tire choice is just perfect. Nice build all in all, thanks for sharing it.
Casey Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Wow is all I can say. That's a fantastic build, David. I love the clear glass fuel filter and the weld detail on each header pipe. I would love to see many more pictures of it if you're willing to post them.
dpride Posted December 31, 2011 Author Posted December 31, 2011 Thanks for replies, here are some more photos of build. I have about a week's work on another job before I can finish the model. Some parts are just placed at the moment.
Sixties Sam Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Amazing model! The detail is incredible! Your scratch building skills are great! Sam
Gluhead Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Impressive...1/4 scale...talk about fillin' up the table.
Mooneyzs Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I love the stance, the look. its got the perfect ride height and chop. The detail blows me away on this. Very nice job on this one. I look forward to seeing some more of your builds.
Draggon Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Simply amazing, talk about great craftsmanship, and it is soooo clean!
Mr.1/16th Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 WERE DID YOU GET ALL THE 1/4TH SCALE PARTS????? PLEASE DO TELL!!!!!!
dpride Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Thank you all for the comments, it makes it worthwhile when people appreciate your work. @ Mr.1/16th, Almost all of the 1/4 scale parts had to be scratch built. The engine block is from the Visible V8 kit with a few additions like head bolts and details in the casting. I doctored a carburetor , molded, and cast 6 off. Venturis are made from plastic wine glass stems. The wheels and tires are a combination of turned masters, 3D modeling and printing, and mold-cast techniques. Here are a few construction photos. This is quite a change from the 25mm long hot rods I used to build up from the "free toys" in corn flakes packets.
southpier Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 beautiful ride. but, uh, what's with the heads, man?
dpride Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 @ southpier, the heads are from a movie (don't remember which) where we had face casts of actors for use in the special effects dept. Maybe it was Red Planet since one of them is Val Kilmer's face.
Old Sprinter Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 David; great work, I love it. One question is what do you do with these big cars when you're done. It's a problem I have and am curious what others do. Thanks, Ken
dpride Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 @ Old Sprinter, where to put it? When I finish the 1/4 scale pin up girl to go with it, I will build a glass case to display it . I have a place to put it but I think I won't build anymore big ones......like a 1/4 scale top fuel car.
Old Sprinter Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 (edited) A 1/4 Top Fueler would be a room size,LOL. I love the big scale but I have one room, where I work, to display my builds and it is filling up. Here's a shot from awhile back and there's been a lot added since. dpride Posted January 6, 2012 Author Posted January 6, 2012 Old Sprinter, it's good to have a room to display them and I love the large scale steampunk gyrocopter hanging at the center of your room..
Old Sprinter Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Yep that is pretty cool; it's a Home Depot creation. You should see all the activity that goes on with the other airplanes when that thing is on. LOL
Dr. Cranky Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 It looks like you can cast and supply an aftermarket parts market. That thing looks super cool.
Ognib Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 (edited) The welding bead & heat stain detail on the header tubes is most impressive. Care to share your technique? In my head, I can hear that motor choppy idleing & barking in my ear. Is this a steel frame car, as well? Edited May 4, 2013 by Ognib
