OK, so the Duke boys find an old dirt track car and make the "General". What if . . .

They started in 1966, '67, '68? WIT (What If They) went drag racing in the stock classes? WIT made a funny car?

Maybe that MPC kit ain't too far off. Maybe they moved up to a Charger 500. and then a Daytona?

Spose they tried a Road Runner ? a Superbird? WIT went to Bonniville ?

movin' on up , a '70 Charger? a '71, '72, '73 ?

Now WIT got into NASCAR now and were running a bunch of cars in a team? Just look at all the generals they could pick from: Stonewall Jaskson,J.E.B. Stuart, James Longstreet, Geo. Picket? General Grant? Oooops! that would have to be a Ford, or a Chevy. Custer, Sherman ?

I think that MPC 1/16th General Lee with all the NASCAR acrudaments fits right in.

Hahaa... the Grant thing reminds me of highschool. I painted a troz style cartoon of the gen. Lee smashed into a tree and a vette (I think it was) decked out like the union with "Grant" on the roof, racing ahead...It got me out of that class...kinda wish I still had the painting.

Kinda funny though how, not very many people didnt get the idea of my cartoon...

Yeah, but if they picked another car, we would be complaining about them destroying those cars.

Not to mention if they hadn't picked the Charger then maybe it wouldn't be as popular because, you have to admit, the show is one of the reasons the Charger is as popular as it is. There wouldn't be nearly the mystique surrounding the car if it was just another old Mopar. Think about it, guys point out a 69/70 Charger to their 5/6 year old sons or whatever and say, "Look there's a 69/70 Charger. You know that's they car that was used for the General Lee." Or you have kids that see one and say "Hey that's the General Lee," regardless of what state the car is in.

Think about how many Mopar fans the General Lee created.

What if the idiot TV people had picked some other car, so we wouldn't have had to see hundreds of Chargers written off?

Not this argument again LOL- The second-gen Charger (68-70) was a sales hit for Chrysler with almost a quarter of a million built

According to records 185,698 '68 and '69 Chargers were produced- the 300 or so wrecked for the show hardly a drop in the bucket and doubtful to have made any impact on the number of surviving examples in 2011

In fact- it's just as valid to say the interest stirred up in these cars when the original Dukes aired (as well as the "replicas" that seemed to show up in every small town) may have saved more Chargers then the number of vehicles wrecked by the studio

WHAT IF there had never been "The Dukes of Hazzard" and we never had to suffer through so many posts on this forum related to it? You know, I have seen many, many builds on this forum that would be candidates for "Real or Model," but I've never seen a General Lee that would fit there. Does anyone have any favorite General Lee builds?

For your info, they was originally going to go with a Camero painted confederated gray with the flag on the hood not the roof. But they wanted something that was alittle more muscler.. an Gray on camera was alittle hard to see the color of also.

They started in 1978 with the filming, aired it on tv in Jan 1979.

They did start with the car being a 1968, in the 1st episode in Season 7 "Happy Birthday General Lee" explaining to folks how the duke boys got the General or came to have him. Waylon Jeggings the shows narrator refers at the junkyard scene when the boy's are looking at the charger. He says "That led the boys up to that old wreck of a '68 charger" . The car they pull out of the junkyard drive way is really a stunt car General Lee that had been jump an landed on the front end to hard. Because the Ditch scene an that scene damage doesn't line up at all, the driver door isn't even bent either on the car they are pulling with the tow truck.

Now what if they had gone with the Camero like they was originally planing on doing. The car would have falling apart on the landings I think more worst. Could you just think of how many people would be upset over the Camero's? LOL.

I've never seen a CamEro, I don't know what a CamEro is, and I don't believe they ever planed on a CamEro 'cause I've never seen a CamEro fly. So whut's more worst, a CamEro or a Dud ChargAr?

;)

What if the General had intelligence like K.I.T.T. Would it have made those jumps, or just slammed on the brakes and ejected the Duke boys for being stupid?

Which brings up another what if... What if the General had ejector seats would they have t-topped a 69 Charger for that? Would it still have a Confederate flag on the roof? It goes on and on and ....

:D Pardon me Christian, but don't you mean"braces?" As I understand it, "suspenders" in Britain refers to ladies' garter belts. Or maybe that's what you meant?
