Mr. Moparman Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Which would you recommend? I may have to buy another one, I going to try and get mine repaired though.
martinfan5 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I bought my dell laptop new in 2005 and its still going strong , havent had any problems with it other then the battery going bad a few years ago, but that happens
Chuck Most Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Sony Ditto. And I say that after 'test-driving' just about every type of PC AND laptop out there over the last few years.
martinfan5 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Yes sonys are a great laptop, it all comes down to how much you want to spend on one
JamesW Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I've got an HP Pavilion G6. Not a problem out of it. I have had problems with every Dell I've ever owned though.
RyanSilva Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) ASUS! my choice for all my graphic card and motherboard needs. Bought my mom a netbook from them a few years ago, using a ASUS transformer tablet too . I would avoid dell .(thats just me) their PC's are filled with bloatware (useless programs, trials, and clutter items you wont use) Edited January 11, 2012 by RyanSilva
SuperStockAndy Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I've got a Compaq CQ61, cheap computer but still going strong after two years.
Harry P. Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Ummm... Mac and Apple are the same thing. Apple is the company, Mac (Macintosh) is the brand name, so every Mac is an Apple Mac.
Rob Hall Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) I have a Dell Studio XPS that I've had for about 18 months, no problems..had to replace the battery, though. Also have a 4yr old Apple Mac Book Pro that still works fine. Using a Mac Book Pro at work also. Only complaint about both the Dell and the Mac is the weight...heavy.. In 17 years of laptop ownership, I've had 1 Compaq, 3 Toshibas, 2 Dells and a Mac Book...the Toshibas were nothing but trouble..one only lasted 6 months. On the other hand, my sister has a 4 yr old Toshiba that still works fine.. Edited January 11, 2012 by Rob Hall
Aaronw Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I've had an HP since 2005. Other than a warranty issue that was quickly taken care of, I've had no problems. I'm not sure I'll go that way again though as I've been hearing the current HPs are not the quality they used to be.
Rob Z Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Forget the Dell my Friend, Do you shelf a favor here, and Get a Toshiba,..I have the Qosmio X505, Q888,..You Will pay more for it by far,..But you get more as well,.. Any Toshiba will work even the satilaight,.. Ian. My mother had a Toshiba and had nothing but troules with the touch mouse and window resizing on thier own... Had it back to BB several times and even sent it to Toshiba, the problem was never corrected... They ended up giving her a new one and she opted to up grade to a Sony and has had no trouble since...
kylexgore Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 To be honest, I would go the desktop pc route as they are cheaper and easier to maintain. Laptops would cost you more to have repaired than what a desktop would. As for the desktop the possibilities are endless. I have been working on computers and programming them for several years. In my opinion I would take a desktop pc over a laptop any day.
Skydime Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) If OS is not an issue, then I would definitely say an Apple. Even though I like my iphone, I'm still a Windows person just because I don't feel like relearning to use a one button mouse. If you are just looking for something cheap, portable, and reliable, my two cents is an emachines. I have had two (including this one) and neither have given me an issue...and I use this one at least eight hours a day for working at home. I wouldn't give two cents for an HP laptop. I have had four and they have all four fallen apart at the keys and seems within the first six months. I used to have a Dell laptop for a few years...it was decent aside from having to replace the battery and charging cord. Edited January 11, 2012 by Skydime
Dr. Cranky Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I agree with Tim, I use Toshiba, always have gotten great deals and mine works like a charm. Of course, having said that I am thinking of switching to a Mac in the coming years.

cruz Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Toshiba for me, mine is 6 years old and no problems yet, including the battery.

Rob Hall Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I don't think I'll ever get a desktop again..haven't had one in over 4 years now. I like the flexibility w/ a laptop, don't want to be stuck in my home office all the time.
MikeMc Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Tiger Direct is a good source for computer stuff but I like http://www.newegg.com/ better. They are #2 right behind tiger...I like tiger due to the retail store 45 min away....great for info and returns...quick
RyanSilva Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Tiger Direct is a good source for computer stuff but I like http://www.newegg.com/ better. Im with you! newegg all the way, been using them for 8 years now, while they arent like they use to be, its still my go to place for parts when I build gaming rigs or mom pc's.
sjordan2 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Just a word of warning about HP: They announced last summer that they're getting out of the PC business. They fired their CEO since then, so it might change.
