mrmike Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 The clouds are starting to roll in, the wind is picking up with increasing force, it's starting to rain hard, and the ground is shaking! The Ford gods are angry, Ma Mopar is releasing her fury...oh no...no...it can't be...mrmike is building...gasp...another Chevy!!!!! Yes folks, I am building Revell's Chevy Nova COPO! My paint will be Tamiya TS-20 Green Metallic with a black interior. I am in need of building something a little different. Just short of building something completely different like a P51 Mustang fighter or Mobius Seaview submarine (I have those as well). So follow along with me and let's see what I can do with this Nova. More to come...
mikemodeler Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Going box stock for the Gearz contest or just tempting fate by building another Chevy? You got me interested, can't wait to see some progress!
espo Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 These are fun models. Whatching for more pictures.
mrmike Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 Going box stock for the Gearz contest or just tempting fate by building another Chevy? You got me interested, can't wait to see some progress! I'm not involved with the Gearz contest so I must be tempting fate. Ma Mopar...please forgive me!
W-409 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 YeeHaw, nice to see Mike building Chevrolets too! This is going to be really nice build. Can't wait to see, how this kit comes together, since I've been thinking about buying one Copo Nova, but I have one already on the bench, so I'm not sure about that yet.
mrmike Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 Thanks Niko! I got out of work a little early today so when I got home I sat down at the bench to work on the Nova. I examined the chassis and noticed the copyright on the inside of the gas tank. That was all well and good until I examined the other side of the chassis only to find this... And this... Why??? This creates more work for the modeler who is trying to build a good looking model, but now has to contend with removing the raised lettering on the chassis. I don't really think it was necessary to put the copyright on both sides and the Under License lettering could have gone on the inside of the chassis as well. You wouldn't find this on a 1:1 chassis, would you? More to come...
mrmike Posted February 12, 2012 Author Posted February 12, 2012 I was anxious to see some color on something today, so while I had been removing mold lines on the body, I set it aside and sprayed the wheels. I'm going to really like this color. The bodywork also included mounting the rear panel using the rear bumper as a guide. I need to smooth the joint and apply a little putty. With the exception of decals, the engine is done for now. More to come...
mrmike Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Getting out of work early for a long weekend gave me a chance to work on the Nova this afternoon. Basically, parts prep and painting. I even got the body and hood into a coat of white primer. More to come...
wraith Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Gotta love getting out of work early to go home a spend some MORE time modeling!!! MAybe I can get out of work tomorrow to do the same? YA, RIGHT! i HAVE THE WHOLE DEPARTMENT TO MYSELF TOMORROW! Anyway, lol!, the time away from work looks to show some very good work MIke!
Kanedge Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Look forward to seeing how this turns out. Annoying copyrights...
mrmike Posted February 18, 2012 Author Posted February 18, 2012 Thanks Darrick and Kane! I'm hoping to get the body painted sometime this weekend with the Tamiya Metallic Green and get started on the interior and chassis.
wraith Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Thanks Darrick and Kane! I'm hoping to get the body painted sometime this weekend with the Tamiya Metallic Green and get started on the interior and chassis. WOW!!!!! Kane is my middle name and spelled exactly the same!!!!! How many times will that happen? I post and then my middle name is the next post! just struck me as weird! When I first read your reply Mike, I thought you called me by my first and middle name! Don't tell anyone! It'll be our secret. Brandon, it's only rain!
Patrick2005 Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I built one of these and am going to be building another soon, love how easy it goes together!
mrmike Posted February 19, 2012 Author Posted February 19, 2012 When I got the kit, I was impressed at the crisp molding and engraving. So far, everything fits like it should.
crazyjim Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 So the COPO Nova is a nice kit? Yours is looking good and the green is an excellent color choice.
The70judgeman Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 It's a pretty nice and easy kit. Everything fits good too. This is the one I built. The color is Model Master Laquer Nassau Blue Metallic, AKA: Corvette Blue.
mrmike Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 A really nice job on the Nova, Andy! I like it a lot! I was hoping to get the Nova painted today, but that didn't happen. Maybe I'll find some time during the week.
mrmike Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 I was able to get a coat of paint on the Nova this morning with the rest of the house still asleep. A cup of hazelnut coffee and a can of paint...good combo! Unfortunately, the hood didn't fair as well. An errant hair found its way on to the hood after I had wiped it down. The hood is now in the purple pond. More to come...
mrmike Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 Thanks Jim! I should be able to get the hood painted sometime this weekend. Finally, a chance to work on the Nova this morning. I started by foiling the shifter boot plate on the chassis and installing the back seat. I detailed the side panels and the dash. More to come...
