SSNJim Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Nice looking Cougar. It reminds me of the El Gato concept car. It's not one of Ford's better known concepts, but I find it pretty interesting. Ford/Mercury did build a concept fastback Cougar in 1970 using the 67-70 body. I'm not sure why they would build it at the end of the body style's life cycle, but what the hey. It had a chopped fastback roof, extended fenders, and custom front/rear end treatments. http://www.fordmercurycougarxr7.com/Special%20Cougar/1970%20Mercury%20Cougar%20El%20Gato/index.htm
Abell82 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I made one of these myself a few years ago only I converted it to a 1970 . I never completed it, because I could not find information on the interior, that was used in el gato. You can see pics of mine in the Cougar CBP, if your interested.
Speedster Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Sweet Cat! I've been thinking of doing that with a real one I own.
Scale-Master Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 That is a great concept. I like it better than the notchback GT500, but I might have done the same just to see what it would look like.
LURCH426 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Nice build looks great.Maybe if Mercury would have built it this way the would have sold more of them.
donkeypuncher76 Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 My dad was always a Ford guru but had a love of the Cougars, built a few nasty muscle cats in Denver way back when, we always talked Mustang and Cougar stylings, being the same platforms. Yet Mustangs had the fastback styles and coupes, the "Grande" lol. which had the same roof lines as the Cats we speak of, I have forgot all about this till I saw the this killer Cat, nice work. Wouldn't ya know it, just finished a re-run of "Overhaulin" with Chip Foose, where they took the quaters from a69/70 fastback stang and cut them into a convertible car for the lines, way way better. Mercury/Ford would have sold sooooo many more Cougars:) with your design. i'd like to have one like it but am far from that skill level chopping bodys, I.E. my 57 chevy build. Sorry guys, babble....brought back some fond memories of pops. thx mcm..If your interested in selling it let me know thx again. nice.
Badluck 13 Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 That looks fantastic!!!!...I have always loved the Cougar,I had a '68 and I thought you couldn't make the design look better than they did until I seen your creation!!!...Great job on the body transformation!!!,Merc sure missed this design!!
george 53 Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I was just admireing this build again, an noticed just how nicely the line of the fastback roof matches the sculpture line on the sides of the Cougar. Just an all around NICE lookin conversion. VERY nice, AGAIN!!!!!!
Rusty Sierra Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Wish they actually made one like this.... awesome job
Fast Floyd 2 Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Wow !!!!! I think it looks great, Great Concept. I like the notch back shelby too. they are both great looking
