Gregg Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Okay, boys and girls, here's today's assignment. This is for those who have been asking where can they pick up Model Cars Magazine, and have not been able to find it at Barnes & Noble, or their favorite newsstand, or even grocery store/chain. The next time you go to buy a magazine, or even browse the magazine racks, ask the clerks if they can see if Model Cars is available, and if not, could they please have their manager and/or buyer request it. Every request helps, and hopefully, this will improve the chances of getting Model Cars onto the major national newsstands. I have been working on this for a while, and I think this could be considered the final step. The more people that ask for Model Cars, the more viable the title will seem. No, it's not stacking the deck, so please don't do this if you already subscribe to the magazine. I want this to be an honest and fair inquiry to the newsstands, and hopefully they will see that yes, MCM is ready for national distribution. Thank you in advance.
martinfan5 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I was in a Barnes and Nobel a few month's ago and did not see it, next time I am there I will ask them.
Craig Irwin Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I'm going to subscribe as soon as I can get the bucks together.
moparmagiclives Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I've been on the Hastings in my town for a few months now. the smaller book store said they are not interested in such titles. They do not carry the "other" mags also, so I dont think they would be. I've talked to the local independent hobby /RC store in town a few times. If you would like to pm me some contact info, I would gladly pass it on to him. Might be a good place to move 20 or so a month.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Consider it done, next time I'm at Books a Million, I will ask the manager to order it. And, of course, my local hobby shop which is a Hobby Town.
Danno Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 What's it pay? Well, you said assignment. Assignment = job. Ok. I'm going to my room now.
Roncla Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I remember reading a discussion some time ago about a digital version of the mag being produced. What was the answer to that ? The 'other' mag is now offering a digital option. I've never seen MCM in NZ and I've had issues in the past with various mags coming from America and arriving in tatters.
cruz Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 One of the things I constantly hear from people who used to carry it is that they are actually losing money instead of making a profit by selling it, I don't know if that is the reason for some people not carrying it. I will definitely make it a point to talk to some hobby and book stores to see if I can make a difference. I used to subscribe but my subscription ran out, soon I will subscribe again.
Bartster Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I will try. Have to travel 140 (round trip) miles just to get to the LHS.
Jon Cole Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Book stores... I remember what those look like.
Harry P. Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Can I renew my subscription online? How? Click on the link that says "Subscribe" at the top left of the page.
crazyjim Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I did that Harry but I don't see anything about renew. It looks like it's for new subscriptions.
Bowtienutz Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 55 Miles one way to the closest Barnes and Nobile 93 Miles one way to Model Car Club Meeting (Scratch that the dealer that shows up said that his distributor quit carrying magazines) 12 Miles one way to Walmart (forget it store manage barely speaks English) 30 steps to my mailbox to find magazine has the cover ripped apart. 3 mouse clicks to Zinio Digital magazines. http://www.zinio.com/browse/category/index.jsp?sort=-ranking&categoryId=cat1960064&prnt=cat1960014&start=81 Greg you've had distribution problems with your publisher from the get go. Find a new publisher with better distribution if you want the magazine to suceed in the yearsto come.
Guest Dr. Odyssey Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 It used to be at my LHS and the magazine racks at my supermarket and mall bookstores a few years ago. What changed?
Harry P. Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I did that Harry but I don't see anything about renew. It looks like it's for new subscriptions. Don't current subscribers get a renewal notice in the mail?
Fabrux Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I'm already 'subscribed' through my LHS so I can't really go out and do this... Which is a shame as there's a magazine-only shop in town that would probably carry it if I asked...
crazyjim Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Yeah. I got the card in the mail and wanted to renew online. I went to the "subscribe" part and didn't see anything for renewal so I paid for 2 years via credit card and put RENEWAL in the comments section twice. Hope it works.

I think you're right, there should be a box to click for "New Subscriber" and one for "Renewal."
Rob Hall Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I subscribe, did buy it from LHSes for years but switched to subscription a few years ago because it's hard to find around here (in a huge metro area w/ a number of hobby shops)...strange it isn't available at Barnes & Noble like SA is...
von Zipper Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Last year I asked the nice lady that owns the book store/news stand if she would get Model Car Magazine in stock-she said "No Way" ! since they carry Scale Auto, I asked her why not ? she replied "By the time MCM arrives at the store it is already expired." She went on to tell me that she sells about a dozen copies of Scale Auto every two months, and IF she ever has a copy or two left that didn't sell that she can return them to her supplier for a refund-but they will not take the MCM back because they were already expired when she ordered/received them. She went on to say-and I quote- "If I was running a grocery store, I would not exept an order of bread or meat that was expired before it got to my store either" She asked why I just didn't get a subscription and have it delivered to me? So last Sept. 26, 2011 I ordered and paid for a subscription......got it the first week of January 2012, I believe it was the Oct. issue....and the last two pages were un-readable. 3 months and two weeks to get a subscription is not exeptable !! I'm sorry to say that I asked for my money back, (and got it)
Danno Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 None of my MCMs have ever expired. In fact, I re-read the older issues from time to time. Great stuff ... still.
