Joe Nunes Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I'm wondering what mail-order business you folks use when shopping on the Internet? Who offers the best selection, service and shipping? Who has a good vintage kit selection with honest pricing? Thanks for your thoughts and replies. Joe
shucky Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I'm a fan of modelexpress, modelroundup, plastic models (tower), and hlj.com. It just depends what I'm looking for and the pricing their offering.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I tend to buy most of my models from MODEL ROUND UP. They are highly professional and they always seem to have what I need in stock. Excellent. For kits they don't carry or different subject matter I go with Squadron or Hobby Link Japan.
elan Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Model express and Jim 'n Ohio give me great service.
Erik Smith Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 (edited) I have ordered from Model Express, Model Round Up, Mega Hobby, EHobbies, HLJ, Hobby Search, Jiminohio, (others I can't remember) and never had a problem with any. In fact, they have all been outstanding. Model Express is my go to, though, because of pricing and he is pretty close to me do shipping is cheaper and faster. Edited February 24, 2012 by Erik Smith
heatride Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I have used plastic-models.com with good results . ( Its Tower Hobby ) I was gonna use model roundup for this last order but Doc had me so dang excited about those Cobras that I had the order placed before I realized it !
Rob Hall Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Model Roundup, Model Express, and HLJ for me.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Of course, the ideal is to wait and attend one of the bigger shows and your eyes will pop out of their sockets seeing kits you've never seen before, and also your wallet will empty pretty fast.
Kris Morgan Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 (edited) I have had good luck with both Model Express and, Deans Hobby Stop. There is also Ebay. Edited February 24, 2012 by Kris Morgan
Joe Nunes Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the replies, guys! I have looked at Model Roundup and have purchased models from Tower (when I place an order for RC airplane items), but some of the others I am not familiar with. Dr. Cranky, during the Gulf War and later I sent hundreds of plastic models to our troops and some of those were older kits. Had about 1100 models/kits at one time so I'm familiar with past offerings. ....but you DO know what happens after you give kits away...LOL Joe Edited February 25, 2012 by rhoadapple
Hoosierfarmboy Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Cheers for Model Express. Ordered some detailing goodies on the 21st and received them on the 23rd. Package was well sealed and constructed to prevent damage. Super Kudos to Dennis.
s10chevypu Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I do a lot with model round up, not bad in price. just put in a order with jim-n- ohio, also good price and shipping is cheap, he also emailed me to let me know my order was shipped and gave me a tracking # with the web site. Joseph
kenb Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I like http://www.hobbylinc.com/cgi-bin/s8.cgi?str_s=hudson&cat_s=SCB&mfg_s= . The Hudson Hornet is on sale right now for $16.09 with a bunch of other kits as well. Very reasonable and fast shipping. Ken
Jeff Johnston Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I tend to favor Spotlight Hobby (modelcarkits.com). Reasonable prices and fast shipping. I tend to buy old weird stuff though and find myself buying most of my stuff on eBay.
Roncla Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I'm dealing with Model Express, Model Roundup, Plastic models .com and HobbyLink Japan. All of them have done a excellent job for me.
heatride Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Victoria's Secret. - Humor. LOL good one Danno but I don't think she has to many secrets left the with those cloths !
jas1957 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Spotlight Hobbies, good pricing, fast delivery, honest accurate descriptions of vintage kits.
Joe Nunes Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 Thanks again, folks! Lots of suggestions and I just KNOW that I'm going to get into a lot of trouble with the finance boss!!! LOL (just kidding....well,...maybe not.....) Joe
Prostreet Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 What's the usual shipping timing i can expect with hobby link japan?
The70judgeman Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 You can try Model Empire USA. It's the hobby store I go to most, but they also have an extensive on-line/catalog service. They are located in West Allis, WI so you get the right one. In store pricing is $3-$5 cheaper than most places around here, because of the on-line service. They have a pretty good stock on-hand. Here is a price comparison for the AMT Vantasy for instance. At another store I go to, they sell it for $23.99...at Model Empire it's $19.99 (what I paid). Of course, you'd have to pay for shipping, but you'd probably still save a few bucks. It pays to shop around.
fumi Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 What's the usual shipping timing i can expect with hobby link japan? EMS should be within a week. SAL would probably be somewhere between a week and a month.
martinfan5 Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Ebay, is a good place to, just have to get thru all the BS sometimes , but it can worth it, also tower hobbies, but only when they offer free shipping on orders over $30. In all honesty, you just have to shop around to find the best price with shipping, I for the most part shop around before I buy. Also, I have been finding really good deals on amazon, I bought one of mine revell 2010 camaros thru amazon for $19 with free shipping, so I have started checking amazon now too.
