Dave B Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 HI guys, Have just finished this build. Using Monogram's 2D, wheels from an LS 2C, resin tyres and a bit of scratchbuilding. Pics of this car at Daytona are few & far between but I have both Falconer's & Freidmans Chaparral books plus Friedmans Shelby GT40 which has a nice drivers side pic taken during practice. Will post a couple of more pics as well. Dave B
Dave B Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 Couple of more pics Tks for looking Dave B
JMD904 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Nice looking model! I like the ways they looked back then. Now they all look the same with just a maker's name on it.
Sam Cates Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Oh I love these vintage track builds, especially the lesser common models. Very nice job on this one!
Danno Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Beautiful rendition! LOVE those Chaparrals!!!! - Approval
Crazy Ed Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 (edited) Very Nice job there Dave. You added not only the external oil cooler but also moved the wing adjuster to the correct position, added the wing limiter blocks, center bar on the wing and the Prestolite and Cox sponser stickers. Except for the oil cooler all details missed by many. Sure wish someone'd repop those Wheels! Again Very Nice. Edited February 26, 2012 by Crazy Ed
James2 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I really enjoy these vintage race cars, and this is a great piece. Very clean build, you did a nice job!
bbowser Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Add my kudos, very nice job on a great subject!
MonoPed Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Nice build! Does anyone repop those wheels in resin?
Tommy Kortman Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Nice job Dave. I love the added and corrected details. This one is on my to do list...eventually.
Dave B Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 Thanks guys, appreciate the comments. You had a close look Ed!!! I found a couple of mistakes after assembly and the 65 on the rear is wrong, the 5 should be lower than the 6. Looks OK in the cabinet though, thanks again. Dave B
Harry P. Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Nice job on the model, but my question is in regards to your backdrop. Is that brick pattern printed on paper, or is that some sort of "brick" molded plastic sheet that you detail painted? Also, what's the material used on the "concrete" running along the bottom of the wall?

Also, what's the material used on the "concrete" running along the bottom of the wall? Hi Harry, Both the wall/concrete base and the asphalt is printed on paper and mounted direct onto MDF. It's a real 'cheater' diaroma!! It is available from http://www.cgtextures.com Regards Dave B

Dave B I try to keep my public comments on the positive side. Again, Good Job.
Pete L. Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Really nice work... love the Chaparrals !!!
John Teresi Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Dave......sweet build......very nice!!!!
Eshaver Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 If you go to the H A M B , there are some shots of the Ford GT-40 and Shelby's early Cobras in the Vintage Shots of days Gone By. I think on page 2869. That Chaperral is great work too! Ed Shaver
kalbfellp Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Good to see the kit finally built after all the years of sitting on the shelf! Phil
