How many MCM board members work in the model car field/industry?

I mean actually earn an income or are otherwise gainfully employed by legitimate recognizable model car / kit companies?

Seems to me there has to be some since this is “the” model car forum…

If so, what exactly do you do?

We have a number of people here who are either currently employed or have been employed in the past by model car companies, such as Art Anderson, and quite a few who are now professionally involved in the aftermarket. I will leave it up to them to describe their backgrounds. Just be assured that we are fortunate to have many members who have upfront knowledge about model manufacturing and building.

I have seen Art post long historical themed stories, but I wasn't aware he was an employee of any model car company.

While I have no solid evidence, I would be willing to bet that there are members here who work in the industry and view the postings here to get feedback and insight to our wants, needs, comments and criticisms.

Art Anderson use to work for the prev iteration of the AMT/Polar Lights model company. Wish he worked for the current one.

Me, I just finished two pieces of box art for the current owners of AMT and am working on another piece for Galaxie LTD.

I have also done work for Polar Lights, Revell and Johnny Lightning.

I was thinking more along the lines of active participants (members) who build, discuss, share ideas and work for a company as described above. I'm sure there are corporate "watchers" keeping their ears open too.

Dave Metzner of Moebius is here quite often. Mostly in the "Trucks" section. I think he's in product development?

Yes, he's the product development manager, and he does post on the forum pretty regularly... mostly with updates on upcoming Moebius kits, or in regards to comments and suggestions we have made regarding Moebius products.

How many other model company execs do that? None that I know of. That's what makes Moebius different from all the other model manufacturers, IMO. And I mean different in a very good way. B)

You'll find my name on many Model King boxes and decal sheets. I am blessed to get to help out on Moebius kits at different levels...and Sean S. that posts here does most of the Moebius model car boxes too. Earn a living?? I know the handful of folks that do....but there are many more 'workers' on the fringe.....the plastic model biz is no GM....a few very small companies.

Man, I hope so.

I know it's a very small scale, so I hope there is also. But how many people work for the auto industry that are real car people ? Not just business men/women ? That know what we want more then us.

I did some research here in the archives and online in the big world, (gotta love Google!). I see Art Anderson (there sure are a lot of people with that name, but only found one connected to models) ran All American Resin Models? Same guy right?

If so I guess we have a genu-wine celebrity here who used to cast resin back when it was a black art. Whatever became of that? Are you ever going to start casting and selling again?

I also learned this:

LOL!

Actually I was hoping the actual people would share about themselves, you know the real scoop, not hearsay.

Are there any other luminaries hanging out here that don't wish to remain nameless? I would think it would add a certain level of gravitas to MCM having the guys who make it happen in the model companies associated with it.

Guess you could say I work in the industry. I like to think I provide modelers with high quality resin. Is it really work if you enjoy it though?

......You provided me with quality parts that make my models go from cool to believable!! Someone once said..."Find something you love to do for a living & you'll never work a day in your life"!

I worked in retail hobbies in one way or another from December 1963 until August 1992, in resin aftermarket from January 1989 to March 2000, and then at Playing Mantis (product development for Johnny Lightning, plus a small involvement with Polar Lights in the same offices) March 2002 through November 2004 (and an independent contractor for RC2--AMT Corp and Johnny Lightning) for another 4 months after that). More recently, I gave some assistance to Dave Metzner and Moebius Models on a couple of model car kits on a volunteer basis.

So have you thought about going back into the resin game again? Seems like it is a hot side industry.

That was directed to Art if you couldn't tell...

Nope! I am totally retired from any income-producing involvement in the model car industry, period.

Well, I have been doing the decal artwork and instruction sheets for production kits for many of the major manufacturers and quite a few of the cottage industry compaines since 1981. I have been building box art models for most of those same companies since 1978.
