"Lets get it out there" and expose the one build you keep locked up down in the basement in fear that someone might see it... "you know you have one" mine was the first kit i built "The aluma coupe"

Three words...........LINDBERG.........MODEL........T...Also my first time using the evil "Testors one coat".You can imagine how it went.

Mine also was the Aluma Coupe kit. It met a 2 lb. hammer. I did save the wheels, and tires though used them on a 65 Riv.

Fireworks, and lighter fluid make for great 1/25th scale accidents.:lol::o

My worst builds were sacrificed to the fireworks gods a long time ago.

Thats funny.............. most of my Tonka Trucks were sacrificed years ago,

when my relatives returned from their tour's of SE Asia.

They were kind enough to teach me how to daisy chain my M80 firecrackers together.

most of my promos and model cars met the same fate.

Well, like a lot of guys most of my early models met with exposive ends, I have one model from my late teens. I'm really proud of this one because it shows just how far I have come as a builder. This was my first attempt at detailing a model. I'd just discovered the model car magazines that showed me what was possible to do with a model car kit. It showed me it wasn't just a hobby for kids, but a legitimate art.

I'm not really too sure why it has just seven cylinders or why I have two sets of fuel lines.

Same here. Styrene burns real good...

I remember being all excited about this kit, even though I wasn't familiar with the manufacturer. I was a huge fan of the styling on the then-current T-Birds and Lincoln Mk IVs,and this was about the only game in town when it came to getting a model of one.

1974%20Thunderbird%20Model%20by%20Palmer.JPG The box illustration gives the impression that there would be at least two wide wheels and tires with the kit (probably a set of four like AMT or MPC, my 13 year old mind reasoned) and goodness knows what options they included to hop up that big ol' 460.

Yeah... as I'm boiling the skinny, stock tires (per the instructions) to make them more pliable so the stock wheels can be installed, I'm fuming at the lack of...everything. No engine, fat tires, or even aftermarket wheels (despite the misspelled "Crager" decal) on the box art.

Needless to say, this didn't turn out well. And the moral of the story is: if you're going to punish a plastic model for being a suggestively packaged, poorly designed excrement heap, cover it in kerosene and toss a match on it. Kerosene burns slowly, which will allow you some time to enjoy watching it turn into an even less useful lump of plastic. Ah, catharsis!

I didn't blow up or burn my car models way back when I first started building (in the '60's)... I did that with the tanks, jeeps & halftracks that I built. I don't have any of my car models from back then but I'm sure that either my younger brother destroyed them all, or my parents threw them all in the incinerator along with my stacks of comic books when I moved out and got married in 1968.

The first model that I built at the start of my second modeling life (1991) was the Revell '57 Chevy. The one with opening everything... What a horrible kit. I don't still have it so I can't show pics but I remember painting it without primer, didn't sand mold lines, etc., used tube glue & got it on the glass, and painted the chrome trim with silver paint. It was horrible compared to models I build today.

My first model met an uncertain fate with trying to make it remote control. It was a Wright Flyer by Revell and I tried to put little motors on it to make the propellers spin. I managed to do that but when it came to get the rudders to turn, the first time it worked, when I went to test fly it, the steering and elevator abilities shorted out and it crashed in the pond. I went in after it only to find it in a million pieces at the bottom.

Frank! I built a 68 Charger like that. It is the only car I ever placed at a contest with!

I'm actually considering finding the parts and recreating it! :P

I don't have any of my oldest builds simply because they kept getting rebuilt. I had a tendency to build something and a few weeks later I'd take it apart and repaint and rebuild. Eventually after doing this long enough they would end up completely broken...

YES, THOSE PALMER KITS WERE CRUDE, BUT THE BOX ART IS WHAT GOT YOU TO BUY IT! ALL HAD GENERIC CHASIS AND TIRES AND HUBCAPS. I REMEBER BOILING THE TIRES IN HOT WATER,BUT THEY STILL DIDN'T GO ON THE RIMS. JUST A SMACK WITH DADS HAMMER. OOPS, CRACKED THE RIM. OH WELL.! YES THEY WERE GOOD KITS TO FIRECRACKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I built lots of glue bombs when I started, but after I got back into the hobby as an adult, although I have some pretty bad builds, nothing ever came close to those GBs!

My worst model would be the 2nd model I ever built, It was 1972 and I was 5 years old I built the Copout funny car I know it was my worst because my first model was a snap tight and i completed that just hours before. the one I have pictured isnt the one I built . It is though an original 1970's first pop I bought it as a memorial . As a matter of fact I'll be building a Cop Out Funny Car in 1/16th scale soon , It'll have a brass chassis and all the bells and whistles. anyway enough of the jibber jabber heres the pics.
