Hayabusa Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 This is the Datsun 240Z rally car that won the Safari Rally in 1971. It´s a kit from Hasegawa, built OOB
sports850 Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Looks great , you've done a fnatastic job with the weathering .
puddingwrestler Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Nice weathering! Always liked the early z... Apart from those wheel covers!
jaymcminn Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Man, I love this! great weathering and a fantastic subject matter!
Erik Smith Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Great looking build. I love the tough look of those 70s race cars. You did a great job on the weathering. Nice.
Hayabusa Posted March 29, 2012 Author Posted March 29, 2012 (edited) Thanks for all the kind words, I really appreciate it. @Flatearthman - Sorry, this is a curbside. However, here´s a pic of the interior. Edited March 29, 2012 by Hayabusa
62rebel Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 builds up as a fairly nice street car, as well, even without stock wheels.... very crisp details, very straightforward kit. your weathering is very good!
Hayabusa Posted March 29, 2012 Author Posted March 29, 2012 Thanks everybody. I agree, this is a great kit that´s easy to build into a nice model.
Zarana-X Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I love vintage rally cars. I've been eyeing the few different models for this car.
Hayabusa Posted March 30, 2012 Author Posted March 30, 2012 @Foxer - Thanks, glad you like the weathering. @Zarana-X - The Datsun 240Z is a really cool rally car. This is the first 240Z I´ve huilt, but from what I´ve heard it´s the best. It was a troublefree build and it has some nice details. The body captures the look of the real car, I think. The only thing I could have wished for, was a motor. But, you can´t have it all...
Aaronw Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Very nice, do you plan on building up the base so the car has something to sit on? I've been working on the same 240 and a Stratos. Both are really good kits, but weathering is not my strong point so I'm a bit squeemish dirty-ing them up. Revell did a nice 240Z with a motor. Both are nice but I actually think Revell did a slightly better job on their kit as far as building goes, both look great built.
Hayabusa Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 Thanks for all the kind comments . @Aaronw - Yes, I plan to make something out of that base. Nothing fancy, just a simple roadsection. Even if you keep it simple it will enhance the total impression quite a bit. The weathering was great fun, actually. In my opinion, it makes the car look a lot more "alive". I also build AFV´s and on those models the weathering is really the final touch. The Hasegawa Stratos seems to be a great kit of an awesome rally car. Are you doing a WIP on these models?
Kanedge Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Well done, is the weathering based on the real car too?
