jeffs396 Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Here's Ertl's 1/25 diecast 1950 Oldsmobile, given to me by my good friend Dave (thanks Dave!!!) A disassembly, stripping, prepping, and a satin hot rod grey primer job, followed by a set of Revell '57 Chevy snap kit wheels & tires on a lowered chassis. A little detailing and reassembly, and I'm calling this one DONE!!! Dick (Landy) approves!
dig Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Love it. Dang, I'm going to want to build one just like it now. very clean.
bbowser Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 These are great. I can't wait for the new Revell kit.
Eshaver Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 I just don't an probably never will understand why Ertil / A M T never released either the Oldsmobile or the Studebaker . I saw the 50 Studebaker as a Die Cast in a Wal Mart with Coca Cola markings , then several other colors were added in the Johnny Lightning 1-24th series . I have also seen the Oldsmobile in N A P A stores as a Nascar racer too. Seems like both of these were a win win for Ertil ...................... Ed Shaver
cooltoys1 Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 (edited) Turn this thread into "post your 49-50 Olds" heres mine Edited April 7, 2012 by cooltoys1
meaneyme Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Come on guys, it's not a "show me your 50's Oldsmobiles" type of thread, you should ask permission first instead of apologizing for posting your work on other people's threads. Nice job by the way.
Sully Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Jeff, She looks Bitchin !!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I knew it was going to look that good, you might have had to pry it from my hands. Glad to see her finished. Sully
Chuck Most Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 To say it's a vast improvement over what you started with is an epic understatement! Love it, and yes, can't wait for the Revell '50, either.
traditional Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Hey Jeff, That Olds looks absolutely superb......not only well made, but great concept as well. As you know, I also really like Halibrand style wheels, and they've never looked better than on your Olds. Cliffo
rmvw guy Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Nicely done! I'm for turning this into a '50 Olds thread, the secomd one looks sweet also.
jeffs396 Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 Thanks everyone! This was a fun, quick project, about 4 hours TOTAL in this one. I thought about bashing it with the AMT Chevy fleetline to do an Olds fastback, but wanted to see something finished without all of the "burnout" associated with complicated projects. I think the 2-door sedan body is cool though... Here's the funnest part of diecast rebuilds: Don't shy away from diecasts because they're not styrene...there are some unique subjects out there, good for a quickie to get the creative juices flowing again!
philo426 Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Yep just spray it with Easy off and the paint comes off with no harm to the plastic(the diecast would not be harmed ).
parki Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Hey, nice job. Like the wheel choice. Its a million times better than what you started out with!
jeffs396 Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 Hey, nice job. Like the wheel choice. Its a million times better than what you started out with! Thanks Adam! Yes, these American Racing Salt Flats rims are cool...Casey repops them you know

One thing, though, the Olds you saw at Napa is not the Ertl diecast. It's an Action '49 Olds. The car itself is part of their 50th anniversary Nascar series, sold only through Napa. The Olds is a replica of Red Byrons car, who was the first Nascar Champion. It's a very nice peice. Back on topic, that's a sweet ride you've made from that Ertl Olds, Jeff.
Danno Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Nice. Die casts are way overlooked as modeling material!
