Modelcollector Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 who seems to not want to complete a trade we've had going since January? I got one excuse first, then another. Now, no replies to messages or emails to his email account either. I sent him my stuff in January and still don't have mine in return.
vintagestang Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Tecnically that would be fraud. I know this is only a hobby but it's the fact that some one stole from you so I would call him if you have his number or file with the police.
2000-cvpi Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 (edited) Am I close by the offending trader? I am always up for meeting new modelers. Edited April 9, 2012 by 2000-cvpi
Wayne's World Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Legally, you can file a fraud complaint with the US Postal Service, if you mailed the item via USPS.
Guest Johnny Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 You don't trade with them any more. other than that take it as a lesson learned but don't let it sour you on trading with others. Nothing the site can really do. All they can do is hear both sides and in the end it is a he said he said situation as they have no way of knowing unless they have had a lot of complaints about the same person! All you can do is check with others or check the good trader thread to see if they are listed by others.
george 53 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I've been waiting for a trade to be finished since before Christmas in December. Asked about it once since then, and I've never heard anything since, except that he'd send it. Well, it's been 5 months now, I've seen the same fellow doin trades with others an being called a great trader. What happened to OUR trade? He got a rather rare OOP kit from me, supposedly to trade for a then new kit, but I've never seen it. He's NOT that great a trader to me. I hesitate to trade with folks anymore,Unless I know them or have made successful trades with them, since I don't trust "GREAT " traders anymore. What IS a reasonable length of time to wait for a trade? A year? Nope, not to me. I did MY half in good faith, and I'm still waiting. I don't care anymore if it's painted or not, I just feel ripped off. Oh well, lesson learned, caz I won't trust ANYBODY anymore unless I KNOW them. Ask ANYONE who's EVER traded with me, and they'll tell ya, I'm no slouch and I ALWAYS come thru with a trade with PROOF of delivery in a VERY reasonable amount of time. Feels funny to get ripped off by someone you were just trying to help out. Oh well.....
mikemodeler Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I know a couple of guys that like to rough people up for fun, you want their phone numbers? I would file a complaint with post office if it was mailed via USPS. If you have copies of the emails and any other supporting documentation, maybe a call to the local police department is in order. If it is a small dollar amount, say under $50, there probably isn't much that can be done but if it is $300 or more, that is a felony in most cases and worth pursuing. It's a shame that someone is pulling this on you but whenever I do a trade, I always do it with the notion that it might be onesided and I may never see the item(s) I am trading for. Best of luck and keep us informed.
george 53 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Nawww Mike, it's only plastic, but it WAS a nice rather rare kit. I was just tryin to help a fellow member out, he has such a good reputation I NEVER thought I'd be burned. No tellin on WHY some folks do what they do.
Guest Johnny Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Nothing is 100% foolproof and I guess the trader list is no exception. i remember this from when you brought it up before. It is way more time than needed to complete the trade and it is a shame that someone would do that George. .There is no excuse and the person should be exposed for what they are but we know the position of the site on that issue. It does make one a little gun shy to say the least. But all in all the vast majority are trustworthy traders.
george 53 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 If someone NEEDS to know, just PM me, I'm not the type of guy to just be malicious. Besides, he was SUPPOSED to be a GREAT trader. Yeah, right. I'm not expecting anything anymore, but it would've been nice NOT to have ever had a reason to doubt a fair trade. As i said, oh well.
Brizio Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 In some websites there are a post with positive and negative feedback, and yes they put the users name in both cases. This help a lot to chose if trade with that person or not.
george 53 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Well, if there was a list like that here, you'd NEVER find me on the bad trader side. If I make a trade, it's DONE, just ask anyone who's ever traded with me.
Harry P. Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Whenever you decide to trade with someone, you're on your own. This site can't possibly act as the "trading police," we have no way of knowing the facts, and even if we had all the facts, we have no way of making anybody do anything. Trade at your own risk. There are no guarantees.
Mike Kucaba Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I'd post the traders full name(at least the one they post with if they put that in at all) and then lock it so the forum doesn't explode. Failing that, maybe a PM to Gregg to suspend the person until the dispute is somehow resolved.
RodneyBad Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 (edited) naa, just put out his state and town and see who lives closes to him. Maybe some one would check to see how he is doing? I've had perty good luck, not 100% but the chances I took, I knew I was taking.. BTW: George53 is an Awesome trader so he must be a awesome person too. Edited April 9, 2012 by RodneyBad

roadhawg Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 My trading advice is the same as loaning money to family members.......never offer more than you can afford to lose.
Harry P. Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Wait I thought we had a trading mod that was supposed to help sort out these sort of things. He quit a long time ago. And even before he quit, there's only so much he could do. All he could do is try to get the two sides to work it out, but he couldn't make them do anything. Ultimately, trading is a gamble.
crazyjim Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I was burned once and posted the members name. I got in trouble for that, but still never got the kit.
Modelcollector Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 Well, I don't want to "go public" with the name, but if nothing happens soon, I just may do it. I'll say up front, he's from Ohio.....
Bartster Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I got "burned" once here. Something no one has mentioned here so far: things DO get lost in the mail. Is that a possibility in this case? I chalked my loss up to mail service since I also dealt with a "Great trader". It can happen.
Mike Kucaba Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I was burned once and posted the members name. I got in trouble for that, but still never got the kit. How in the name of honesty did you get in trouble HERE? And How were you burned? There always is two sides to every deal.
