Dr. Cranky Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 Jim, I've never heard that expression, but I like it, and it's just cracked me up. If it's biker expression I can tell you I don't know it because I've never put my bike away wet, although I've ridden hard in the rain!
crazyjim Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 (edited) It's not a biker term. It's normally used to describe a woman that's, shall we say, been around the block - several times. If that's unclear, I'd have to send you a PM. I don't want to get kicked off the forum. I ordered some of those LEDs even though I have no idea what a rave party is. I'm thinking small boxes to cover them and use them as spotlights when displaying a build. Thanks for the info. Edited May 15, 2012 by crazyjim
Brendan30 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Jim your the first person I have heard use that expression other than my father must have been a generational phrase.
Harry P. Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Actually that phrase goes back to the old west. It refers to a horse that's been ridden hard and "put away wet" (sweating after the ride).
jnickel Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 VERY nice Dr! Love watching this build (and your others) come together. The eye candy you fellas put out is uncanny!
Dr. Cranky Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 Thanks, Harry, and thank you, Jesse. Working on the engine tonight . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 All right, maties, it's progress WEDNESDAY. Like I said a few posts back, this kit goes together like a glove but even so you still have to watch out for that engine fit. You have to cut down the battery a little bit just to get a smooth fit. It's part of getting to know a kit intimately after you build it more than a dozen times. LOL. Here are some shots of the engine bay . . . I applied some washes to the engine to tone it down and unify it all . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 It's all coming together, now it's just a matter of adding small touch ups and details here and there . . . I have to confess I like the "topless" look to these 40s and 50s vehicles . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 I will be done with the vehicle some time today, so stay tuned in . . . also, if you want to see more pictures of the vehicle, including "rear" shots, you can go here: http://public.fotki.com/vsuarez666/voodoo-customs-chop-shop/models-1/burlesque-49-merc/page3.html
David G. Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Well done doc! I love watching your builds come together. David G
Dr. Cranky Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 Thank you, Ray and David . . . this one is almost done . . . I just have to finish it today and take a final round of better pictures of it. Stay tuned in . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 All right folks, I am going to post the final round of pictures for this build over in UNDER GLASS. But before I do, I wanted to thank you all for making building models so much fun inside this great community. All your comments, suggestions, and generous support is welcomed and appreciated. Best wishes, Doctor Cranky. LONG LIVE YOUR STYRENE ADDICTION.
Dr. Cranky Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 All right, we are back now working on the Burlesque Theater weathering the walls and putting in some of the final touches. Please stay tuned in for some more progress. Now that the car is done, I can focus on the Theater until it is finished.
Dr. Cranky Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 Made more PROGRESS on the Burlesque Theater, and been having quite a blast with it. Here's proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkjjLEiLs2s:
Dr. Cranky Posted May 23, 2012 Author Posted May 23, 2012 Okay, finally tracked down some dry ice and the stuff is not cheap at a 1.47 per pound. So what is a styrene addict to do? Buy a couple of pounds! I'm experimenting with the stuff for now, although I think eventually I will have to use a fog machine too . . . Here is a trial and error moment:
Dr. Cranky Posted May 23, 2012 Author Posted May 23, 2012 A new dancer came by the club to do a little spinning on the dance floor, in this case a Tommy May model that will make you empty out your wallet. Thanks, Tommy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR3StrQIYZE:
250 Testa Rossa Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Maxx, the wide whites are from the MODELHAUS (170c) and the wheels are from R&M of Maryland. If you contact Norm, he'll set you up. Don't I like the idea . . . and I guess I'll have to print up some G-scale dollar bills. Get it? G-scale? HA! Insanity runs deep in the Lab-RAT-ory. Can you tell me the number on the set of the wheels? I have the catalog, but I can't find the wheels. If there are a set of Firestone racing tires that the wheels would fit into, that would be great. I have a Tamiya 1966 Beetle that I would like to use these wheels on.
Dr. Cranky Posted May 25, 2012 Author Posted May 25, 2012 Maxx, I think they are 170c, something like that.
Hedgehog Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Dr. This is a beauty. magnificent creation. Keep on building and stay on the styrene addiction.
GrandpaMcGurk Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Good grief...my smileys aren't working or I put a bunch of them here......way to go Virgil!!!
