I've seen some of the Caprice cop cars advertised for sale on a used car website so they're out there for someone to obtain one privately.

And that is the only way you can get one, same with the Charger and the Ford Interceptor's, Chevy Tahoe PPV, the public can only buy used, now thats not to say that there are dealers out there that will sell them new to someone.

Actually, it's about 4 inches longer...(204.2 vs 199.9). The Caprice is slightly narrower and taller.

Well, maybe I exaggerated the length a bit. It is definetly not smaller than the Charger or Taurus, especially not in the rear door area, which is where the extra length is added.

Definitely...and if they call it Monte Carlo (which has also been rumored and makes sense from a NASCAR angle for the branding) they would whine about it being a 4dr..

However, it sounds like the name is definitely going to be just 'SS' based on the articles I've seen today.

taurus ,charger, impala, last of the pontics,I assume camerys and the intrepid all 4 doors

A friend of mine had a G8 that thing ripped. Were they avalible in the U.S.?

Yes the G8 was here in the states

Remember what happened to the GTO. Adios!

Yes I do, I kind of think part of the problem was GM putting the GTO name on it, I know there are a handful of reasons why it did not sell well

Go to any Pontiac forum and look around, general consensuses is styling killed sales, Didn't even have a hood scoop ( fake or real) the first year.

I wish Holden would export this one to the US. I'd mortguage the house to buy one. :D

Considering the original GTO was built on the Tempest then Lemans, those were basically that era's equivalent to the Sunfire and the next was the equivalent of the Grand Am both with the big Bonneville engines.....can you imagine the ruckus that would have been raised if Pontiac followed the original formula and had done the newer GTO as a Sunfire or Grand Am with the supercharged 3800 instead!

Word is that the Chevrolet SS will also be pressed into duty as a law enforcement "Black & White" . . .

Where's the 2dr? 4dr's don't do a thing for me, at all. I want a 2dr. Period. It's been to long since a 2dr SS. :) Dan

I read a couple of years ago that GM was thinking about bringing the Chevelle name back on the Commodore. Could this be it? If so I hope they bring it back with 2 doors, like they did when they revived the GTO.

Doug

The 2 Dr Holden Commodore has been available in the U.S. since 2010. It's called the Chevy Camaro ..... it's built on the same Zeta platform Holden designed for the VE Commodore/Pontiac G8 and the longer Statesman/Caprice.

If that's not cool enough there's always the Cadillac CTS Coupe which uses a number of parts from the Zeta platform along with the Sedan and Wagon versions. Those Aussie's sure know how to do RWD !

A V8 rear drive sedan might sell but not well enough to make it last more than a few years

Since the new Caprice PPV was brought up, I thought I would add a few more things on it, one there will be a Civilian model coming in 2015, and it will be built on GM's all new Omega platform, and not the current zeta one, which the Omega is replacing .

Hope your house is worth a cool $2mill... 'cause that what Holden reckon's they spent, all up, on making it Lol!

Guys, from all the Aussie magazines/info, I've read, on the new VF ( 2013 ) Commodore, GM are gunna import them & sell them as your new Impala.... Doe's that not make sense? The original Impalas ( 80s/90s versions) were rear-drive, 4-door, V8/V6 sedans, right? From what I understand GM wants it's share of Cop cars, taxis, fleet car sales back... Make's sense that they'll call it the Impala.

Dan.

Nope. the Impala is staying FWD. The new FWD 2014 Impala (on the Epsilon II platform) debuted a couple months ago at the New York Auto Show. The Commodores coming here will be badged as SS or another name..

what the SS should be based off

Get your facts straight. they came in both auto and 6 spd. 2004 came with with a vette ls1 motor with LS6 heads (and intake I believe), most of the 6 spd (tailhousing and output shaft were F body) components were also vette. Making the drivetrain mostly corvette. ) 05-06's were LS2 based engines used again mostly vette parts.

Part of the styling problem is that the GTO nameplate was gone for so long that there was nothing it evolved from. So there was no progression to what they imported.

Paul

all ive see were autos i think ive only seen 1 6 speed since. doesnt make it less of a crappy car

I've NEVER seen an late model Impala ss with a manual trans, much less a 6 spd one. What year were those made????? I ordered my 95 brand new an there were no other tranmissions avalable but an automatic.

I think the manual trans comment was about the '04-06 GTO.
