My next build will be this Meyers Manx kit. I want to do it as a street buggy. So far I cut a slit in the back for a rear spoiler/small wing ? It will not end up sticking up as much as the photos show. I also drilled holes in the rear of the body for different taillights. I cut off and smoothed the posts in front where the headlights would normally mount. I just don't care much for the "Bug Eyed" look with the stock headlights.

I like your idea of a street buggy . Changing the head and taillights is also a great idea , those taillights in the kit are terrible ! A flush mounted round taillight would look cool , but what about the front ? Also I'd suggest lowering the ride height as OOB it is way up in the air !

Sorry , didn't mean to tell you how to build it , I just really like this kit . Can't wait to see what you come up with !

Looks good so far. This kit has a ton of potential. Still trying to decide what to do with mine. I'll be keeping an eye on yours for inspiration and ideas!

The most common taillights used were the first generation Mustang lights.

Ya Bob, I want to lower it. The front is no problem but not sure yet how to do the rear. Can I maybe just make the drive shafts go at a different angle ? I think thats my best bet. Also, I can only go so low with the fenders and the wheels and tires I have. I am thinking the round taillights from the Revell 49 Merc kit. I don't know about front lights yet. We shall see.

When I glued the rear suspension pieces together I used the steel axle to locate them with a 1/8" spacer between the axle and where the engine mounts . Then I used 1/16 " plastic rod to make new axles at the proper angle . It's easy and works great .

Can't wait to see how your Manx turns out. Some of the ideas that have been mentioned have got my wheels turning.

I finished a Manx about a month ago, but it's pretty much box stock. I may need to get another one and try to customize it.

Good Luck on yours!

Having a bit of trouble figuring out what or how to do the headlights. Maybe I shouldn't have removed the posts. : ) I will figure out something. Nothing good in my parts box.

Those headlights look EXCELLENT, Ray. Go for it. Please report in detail how you pulled it off. I like those vented side pods on the website 91blaze suggested. You have to construct those too! Wish I could tell you how - I have no idea. No wonder my buggy kit is still sitting unopened.

There are probably better ways to do it, but this is how I would make the headlights. First use putty (I use milliput) to make the hump for the headlight and smooth it out real nice. Then drill out the holes for the headlights. Should be pretty easy to do, just give it a shot.

I was thinking maybe plastic tube the right size could be cut and molded into the body. Maybe ?

Find a piece of tube the right size diameter . Then figure the length that you will need for one side .Mark the tube on an angle to cut your first piece off , When that piece is cut the angle for the second piece is already cut , so just cut that piece to length. The angle will be what you sand to fit the hood leaving just the right amount of straight diameter for the light . Just a thought . Edited by 1930fordpickup

Got more done on the buggy. I was all gung-ho on this build when I started but for some reason loss my drive about half way through the engine. Not sure why. Anyway forging ahead I have the body painted but still needs to be cleared. The wheels and tires are assembled. I sanded off the molded in gauges on the dash and then cut a new panel from sheet plastic and drilled the holes and put gauge decals on the back side. The roof was painted gloss black and then I used HOK Marblizer over that. That also still needs to be cleared. The engine is finished for the most part. I wired it up although I must admit the wiring job is a bit messy. I guess this won't be my perfect model either. Better luck next time. : ) Comments welcome as always good or bad.
