Funny think about the Badman...it's what we consider to be a typical looking period gasser, looking at it with today's eyes...but the box art at the time referred to it primarily as a funny car:

Monogram Classics Model Kit Badman 1955 Chevy Street FunnyCar Mostly Built W/box | eBay

(I know this box is from the more recent reissue, but the copy is the same)

Yeah, Monogram and Revell where both way behind AMT and MPC on actual funny car kits, so these hacked together jobs filled the gap until they could make something newer. And when they did, well, the rest is history!

Welp, I'm back from that wretched hive of online auctioning scum and villainy, and what I wanna know is this:  since when did the lousy Badman start trading so high-falutin' within a mere seven years of the last pressing?

I just snared a clean and complete PC83 variation for about half the typical buy-it-now asking on the TD kit!  A starting bid on one of those is now in pretty extravagant territory.

Fortunately, the most recent issue (out now) has all of the Bad Man parts in it except for the decals and red tinted glass.

So, question for people who know better than me - what IS the transmission meant to be in this kit?  Is it a stock ‘55 trans, carried over from the earlier versions of this kit?

I believe the block and trans are the same as the original issue. That was supposed to be a 265 with a 3 spd standard trans.

This was one of the first kits I built as a kid in the seventies that looked good to me when it was finished. I didn't paint the yellow body, but everything else was painted. I had it for a long time(relative) compared to the ones that rolled because those were played with and would get bashed and eventually blown up with a firecracker or two. I also had the black street rod version, and like the Badman it was left in the plastic color and everything else was detail painted the best of my abilities. Eventually those were damaged and tossed along with most all of my childhood builds. So when it was reissued in 1999 I snapped one up. Finished it in 2013, and even with all the inaccuracies, it's one of my favorites.

If you want a legit 1/24 BBC in your BADMAN, look no further than Monogram's '65 Vette; stock or street machine version, it's a VERY nicely done Chevy Big Block engine.

I just saw one on Ebay, thanks to your suggestion. That is nice! I'll be picking that one, or a kit up, so I have one on hand. Thanks again!

Personally, I can’t stand this kit. It’s more of a cartoon caricature than an attempt at a reasonably accurate ‘55 gasser. I did buy one years ago when kits were still cheap only for the purpose of making resin copies of the one rear wheel that’s a fair resemblance to an American Racing 200. The other rear wheel doesn’t even match. Once that’s done I’ll definitely be offloading it. As if to further my frustration with this kit, the 5 slot wheels and tires in the newly reissued kit are exactly what I need for an old Monogram ‘55 panel truck I have, but I can’t bring myself to shell out $35.00 for another one of these abominations just to get the rolling stock.

I'm building one, now! There's a WIP thread in Drag Racing. While we are all aware of its flaws, it has always nailed "cool"! The body and most of the chassis are all that are left of the kit, in mine.

I opened one up about a year ago... I had built one a long time ago in my teens. I was hugely disappointed with the kit, the interior tub you'd be stuck with unless some kitbashing was done. I was going to do a '55 gasser build-off with my brother and picked up an AMT sedan kit, worlds better over the Monogram kit.

This one is the current Monogram 55 using another kit to get matching rear wheels and some aftermarket decals. Just wanted one of these iconic cars for myself.. Thank goodness for 40 off at hobby lobby.

That's why mine has aluminum interior panels!?
