Haubenschild Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I picked this kit up a few days ago. I plan on building it box stock with a black exterior and radome tan interior. I will be basing my build off of the build up in the online sample copy of MCM I have primed the block and aibrushed the air cleaner body, canisters, and the valve covers testors gold enamel
Greg Pugh Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I'll be watching this one. I've been curious about this kit.
Haubenschild Posted August 29, 2012 Author Posted August 29, 2012 Panel lines have been scribed and washed. The body was primed with Tamiya fine grey primer, after a little bodywork the final primer coat will be applied
bryan_m Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 oh man! that looks like a sweet kit.......now i want one......LOL what a great engine in that one too, it just looks mean. cheers bryan
MachinistMark Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Looks fantastic buddy. Your skills really have grown leaps and bounds
moparfarmer Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 There is just something about a primed body of a car/truck. Looks sooo good, maybe even better than with paint. I like shiney so it would have to be painted. Brings up another topic to this, don't forget to prime/paint the hood the same time as the car. Pigments in the paint settle and you'll get different(ever so little) color. I know a friend who shot a 67 Coronet 440 hemi car with the doors/gasdoor separate and you could see the difference.
Haubenschild Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 Thanks for the comments guys! The final primer coat has been sprayed on the body and hood
Jantrix Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Man that molded body looks so crisp, it looks like its a larger scale. Can't wait to see the build.
Haubenschild Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 After some I thought I decided to sand away the side scripts and use the decals in the kit. I didnt sand away the front script since I didnt want to mistakenly sand down the raised area between the script
bryan_m Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 i agree with Rob, that body looks super crisp! very nice work. cheers bryan
Haubenschild Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 The block, carbs, and other engine parts were sprayed Alclad II aluminum
philo426 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Dont forget to paint the strip on the valve cover black.
Haubenschild Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Exhaust manifolds have been painted Tamiya XF-56 grey metallic through the Airbrush and Air canister decals have been applied
Haubenschild Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 The raised areas on the valve covers ( I am sorry, I dont know what they are called ) were painted, overspray was cleaned up with gold paint. It wasnt the cleanest job but its good enough for me
Dominik Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Hi Liam, looking good so far. Keep the work going, so i will watch your progress. I can learn about the kit, when i take my hands of mine. Perhaps, anyone can help me: is it possible, that the engine is the same tooling like amt's '57 Chrysler 300? I am working on it since a couple days and just finished the frame and engine. The details from the engine...i think, i am looking on my work?!
W-409 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Looks very good so far! You're doing fantastic job with this fantastic kit. Engine looks beautiful over all, so smooth paint job and somehow it looks like Real engine. Great! If still is possible to do, remove that little mold seam of the carburetor linkage which is molded to the carbs. Otherwise it looks great. Perhaps, anyone can help me: is it possible, that the engine is the same tooling like amt's '57 Chrysler 300? I am working on it since a couple days and just finished the frame and engine. The details from the engine...i think, i am looking on my work?! I don't know about the tooling, but it sure looks like AMT '57 Chrysler engine. Doesn't matter me, of course. Both engines are very nice.
bryan_m Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 lookin good, i love these engines, i have one ready to go in my next ratrod! keep the progress comin! cheers bryan
Haubenschild Posted September 30, 2012 Author Posted September 30, 2012 (edited) Time for the 5th coat of primer Edited September 30, 2012 by Haubenschild
Haubenschild Posted October 21, 2012 Author Posted October 21, 2012 Since the frame and 95% of the suspension parts are soaking in paint remover I decided to start on the interior Floorpan has been sprayed Tamiya flat black , I am thinking about shooting it with a light coat of dullcoat since it's a little too shiny
GeeBee Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Looking real good, this one os on my want's list ....
charlie8575 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Liam, your building and execution have come a long way. This is coming out very, very nicely. Charlie Larkin
