Southern Fried Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Haven't done a car in over a year. Been busy building 1/48 aircraft for clients. Needed a break. Lost over 30 years worth of spare car parts in a house fire. Hundreds of engines, intakes, headers, and most of all, tires. Gone. Still found enough parts to do this project. It's stayed pretty close to my original intention. '70's flavor. Not too involved. Spray bomb paint. Original concept was a Hilborn fuel injected small block. Then, dual carbed 409. Settled on small block shown. Wanted to keep it mid '70's style. Kit engine with AMT '64 Chevelle station wagon valve covers. Cragers from the Johan AMX. Had a nice set of ladder bars...but the cats only know where they are at! Made the "Grumpy Lump" from sheet plastic. Looks like the grill is going to need a dark wash . Hope you like the direction.
lanesteele240 Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 NIce pAint. Clean chrome lines. Good job. Sorry to hear about the fire
TooOld Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 This is going to be cool ! I like the look , it's very clean and back to basics . I built one similar to this back in '72 except it was metallic green .
cobraman Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Looks very good. I love the gasser type cars.
crazyjim Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 I like a '56 up in the air and I love SHINY :) . What did you do to tint the glass?
Custom Mike Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Great return to cars Phillip, it looks just right! A black wash will definitely help that grill, and like Jim, I want to know what you used to tint the windows!
Southern Fried Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 OK. Window tint. Nothing more than taping off the front...then building up layers of Testors Clear Transparent Blue. on the inside. Got some Transparent Red for another build. Tape the front...spray the back.
retroguy Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 good job, love the windows... does it have to be testors...

Southern Fried Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 Why in the world did ya put this gorgeous model on ebay?? I am mystified!! Gave it to my Nephew to finish. Went back to planes. Got clients pushing me to finish some projects. Guess he needs a video game or something. I give him stuff to sell, trade, whatever. Oh well...I'll get interested in another car soon. Got several almost finished. Thanks for the encouragement though!
