Dave Burket just informed me that the '70 Buick kits are in Iowa now and will be hitting the shelves any day now. Here's another look at the box and decals in case you missed it.

The box and artwork is excellent, this is one I'd be happy to buy just to set on my shelf.

Not that I will, I'll at least glue the engine halves together, lol!

There's no engine, so that work's done for you.. B)

Hmm, I wonder what would make a good driveline-chassis donor, I assume the 70 has a typical era AMT plate chassis. Either AMT 66 Wildcat or 66 Riviera come to mind, though I don't know how accurate they would be for a 70. 66 Wildcat is pretty basic, but might be the easier to use.

The '66 Wildcat , '70 Impala, or '70 Bonneville chassis with the '69 Riviera engine would probably be the way to go..the '66 Riv chassis would be wrong (x-frame) as would a '66 engine (Buick's V8s were redesigned for '67).

Interesting thing is the '70 Wildcat kit was done promo-style (Motor City Stocker Series) while the '69 Wildcat was a full-detail kit.

Thanks! I'm more of a Mopar head, so what got changed when on Buicks isn't something I would know without having to look for it.

At least the 70 Impalas and Pontiacs are available due to the reissues, thank goodness!

I just received my Wildcat in the mail today and I must say that the box alone is worth the price! On top of that the decals are awesome and the kit itself is truly terrific! Thanks Mr. Burket!! B)

The 70-72 GSX Model would be the correct engine, as it has a 400-430-455 engine w/ TH-400 transmission (the kit is 455, but the only difference is valve covers and intake manifolds for those engines.) The only thing you would need is the correct air cleaner, as the GSX had the hood induction scoops. This is the GSX 1970-buick-gsx-2.jpg

This is a normal Buick 400-430-455 and most GS models (different air cleaner sticker)

I think a later (late 60's-early 70's) Impala chassis should work, but may be different from the buick chassis in the rear part around the trunk well. I believe the 70 may have migrated to the perimeter frame, instead of the X frame design. Many Buick's have 12 bold rear-differentials, so one from the GSX might be able to be used if the impala does not have one.

Is this a promo style kit? IIRC the original AMT kit had an engine in it and a full chassis.

Bob

Yes, the '70 is and always has been a promo-style kit with an engine plate, as were all of the "Motor City Stockers" kits from that year. The '69 Wildcat was full-detail.

I'm getting my Wildcat and the Torino stock car today :P
