I picked up the kit a few days ago and I'm still kicking around ideas for it. I know a lot of other folks are as well so we may as well do it together. I've started think tank threads before on another forum and it always yielded some interesting thoughts and ideas. I put it in the Workbench section because it is sort of a mental workbench, so I think it fits. If the mods decide to move it, so be it.

What ideas have you been tossing around for this kit? Discuss.

I have two that I am cleaning up and getting ready for primer. I want to go rusty on one, and on the shiny one I still have not thought of what colors. I'd like to do one as a mild street machine, but we'll see. The best approach is always to look through GOOGLE IMAGE for some inspiration. Thanks for starting this, Rob.

I've been hacking away at mine to create a phantom sedan delivery. Using a Revell '54 SD for the transformation.

Haven't found any factory pics of one, did some searching and the argument is out there as to whether GM actually built any (even for 'official use') or not. No documented examples seem to be out there, but one of these would be fairly easy to build 1:1 using a Chevy, as in scale...

I had that same thought. I have a JF 51 Chevy Sedan Del body that should be an easy fit.

I've gone with a "modern traditional" style sled with mine. Black steelies caps and trim rings, metallic red paint and its been nosed and decked as well. I did however tuck the floor pan from a 55 pro sportsman kit and it fit like a glove so I see a pro street version in my future as well.

I've been thinking a slightly shaved mild custom with a metalflake roof and cadillac sombrero hubcaps. Most likely lowered quite a bit too, I'm not sure how much though at this point. I want it to represent something that could actually be driven daily.

Your welcome Virgil.

Jeff according to Wiki (which tends to be pretty accurate since car guys are so anal about accuracy) it wasn't built as a sedan delivery but it was as a 4-door station wagon, which could be converted I suppose, to a delivery. But you gotta remember in the 50's the GM brands were always a step up from each other in luxury with Chevy being the base model and Cadillac being the top of the heap. Olds was somewhere in the middle so a work vehicle probably wasn't gonna happen.

I'm thinking a nice resto-mod for mine. With a '67 Chevelle chassis and a 396. I have a stalled Fleetline project with a Chevelle chassis that I'm curious as hell to see how it fits in the Olds body.

Rob, I am kit bashing my Olds with an AMT 51 Chevy Crusin' USA...& an AMT 69 442..the wheel base on both is different from the 50 Olds. I may just use parts from each to update the drivetrain...Al

I'm going to do atleast two, the one going now is a modernish custom with hopefully some traditional flair. I'm doing chrome bumpers and window trim but I removed the front and rear side trim and the trim under the side wildows, I frenched the headlights so the bezel and the vent below it will be body color with maybe some silver detailing. It has a six inch chop and rear fenders widened by about three inches each side. It will have a modern driveline and wheels which I haven't picked yet.

The other will be a early drag car, maybe radiused rear wheel wells, raised front but within period rules, not a street freak for sure. I want to use the stock engine for this one, maybe with a period superchager like the Latham from AMTs 25 T kits or something equally classic. I will probably keep the trim for this one, run steelies, open headers, use the rear seat filler panel and the supplied roll bar. I will probably use some of the kit decals but I'm thinking about trying to tie the car to the Jackie Brenston/Ike Turner song "Rocket 88" which is widely regarded as the first Rock 'n Roll song ever recorded.

Ignore the video, the other one had Bettie Page doing her thing in it and I felt it wasn't apporpriate.

Gas Monkey Garage on the show "Fast 'n Loud" did a pretty cool barn find type build where they left the paint all weathered just as it was when they found it the barn, but fixed everything else. I think that if I get one of these kits I'll build one like that.

Not building a custom- this place is crawling with them, but I do have a few ideas.

'60's drag style- Use the blower, Moon valve covers, etc. from the AMT '40 Willys or maybe the Revell Beatnik Bandit on the kit Rocket V8. Jack up the front end either by raising the stock IFS or ditching it all in favor of leaves and a stick axle, and radius the rear opening. Leave out the rear seat (easy to do due to the NASCAR building option) and make up a simple rollbar. Then you just need to throw on some appropriate graphics, sponsor decals, and maybe tint the glass- even though that was illegal in most NHRA classes back then, it didn't appear to stop too many guys from doing that.

Bonneville car- strip all the street-legal niceties, lower the car as far as you can get it, slap on some Moon spun discs and plumb some twin turbos to the engine.

Modern street rod style- Lowered on an air ride suspension, with large diameter billets. Swap in the Olds Aurora 4.0 from the Revell Shelby Series 1- work in the tube, rear-mounted transaxle, and suspensions if you really want to get ambitous. Update the interior and paint it in a modern metallic color.

Abandoned junker- Since I'm stealing at least one engine from one of these kits, I'll use the rest of the car as filler for a junkard diorama I've been kicking around for a while. Rust holes, dings and dents, a thrashed interior with ripped seats, and delaminating glass will be incorporated into that one.

Sedan delivery- yep, another vote for that one. It'll probably be more street rod oriented than theoretically stock.

Fastback and/or hardtop- this one will involve grafting in the roof from an AMT Belair or Fleetline. From there, any of the above ideas could be applied to the conversion.

Here is what I will be doing. Most will probably say boring, but I like it. Body is in primer now. Testors light blue is a close match for the body, havent looked into the interior yet.

That was my first thought too Tom...but then the new Revell Oldsmobile parts probably wouldn't work (without modification) with the resin JF body, which I'm sure is based off of the AMT '51 and Revell 53/54 Sedan Delivery. Also if you wanted to keep the fancy Olds trim, it would have to be duplicated onto the JF body.

50 Olds Sedan Delivery .....just like M & M's .....DOES EXIST!!!!

Yes Al, this is the same car I have pictured in my post...but I haven't seen anywhere that it's a documented, GM factory built Oldsmobile. There are actually a few of these out there on the interweb, but I could NOT find any old factory photos or literature from back then supporting a GM assembled car :( I believe all of the images found in a search are built from Chevrolets...

My mistake on the S D.....Always thought all of their 53-54 Chev models were 1/24...Is the hardtop and sedan 1/24 or 1/25? Just askin, don't want to hi-jack the thread...

Chuck pretty much said what I was going to say. B)

When I get this/these kit(s), one must be built to Custom, of course. This is just too good basis for that one, even if there is already Custom '50 Olds Factory on this forum. Other one will be Stock Car, just because it's included in the kit and Stock Cars are cool too. And the third one will be Gasser, of course.

And Maybe one Stock version, if I'm still interested of building 4th Olds.

Yes you would lose the trim. I also like the side trim, but if an Olds sedan delivery was every made it probably wouldn't have the side trim anyway. I figure changing the headlights and grill will be easier than dissecting the top to the Olds. That's if the chassis will fit the Chevy without too much work.

I don't have the Olds kit yet and my JF body is packed away so I won't be able to check it out for awhile.

I'm ready to start following your build :)
