Rusty Sierra Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I used two kits to complete this nova... The two in one kit and the copo kit. Originally I had envisioned this project completely different. I was going to use the stock copo dog dish hub cap wheels all around however I misplaced one of them. So I decided it might be cool to try something different and use the stock wheels and tires up front with some steelies wrapped with big meats in the back. I had to cut up some rims I found in my parts bin to get them to fit. I was going to use the SS hood and had glued the louvres down before I polished it... big mistake. The polish stripped the chrome right off the louvres. So instead I used the cowl hood and went with a flat black to try and make it look more dimensional. Actually I was just being lazy and didn't want to prime paint and then clear.. The interior is a flat military green. I don't have any good shots of it, just some photos off my phone I'll upload a little later. The exterior paint is Testors one step followed by clear and a couple hours of polish. Wired the spark plugs and did some BMF. Enjoy
kalbert Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Looks cool! I like the factory sleeper look with big tires out back: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=61555
rctruk Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Neat...I like the color too. Looks like something I'd see in the parking lot in high school.
cobraman Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Doesn't look ugly to me. I'd say it's pretty nice.
David G. Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Looks good! The hood reminds me of the custom fiberglass hoods that wewr popular back in the late 70's and early 80's. They would often be left in a perpetual primer state. David G.
philo426 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Not ugly at all!i like the metallic rootbeer and flat black cowl induction hood.Looks like a no nonsense quarter miler or street racer.
slusher Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Doesn't look ugly to me. I'd say it's pretty nice. l have to agree...
TFchronos Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Doesn't look ugly to me. I'd say it's pretty nice. I agree as well. It looks good, I wouldn't mind seeing it on the road.
Ford guy Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Man, I think it turned out pretty good. Great build.
kalbert Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Yea that metallic brown is great looking, is that the Testors Root Beer One Coat Lacquer?
Rusty Sierra Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Yea that metallic brown is great looking, is that the Testors Root Beer One Coat Lacquer? It is the one coat lacquer I'm not sure the name of it though because the label fell off the can when I opened it. I have to say... the Testors one coat lacquer is pretty awesome and with a little clear produces amazing results.
outragis Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 It is the one coat lacquer I'm not sure the name of it though because the label fell off the can when I opened it. I have to say... the Testors one coat lacquer is pretty awesome and with a little clear produces amazing results. I agree 100% I was using mixed automotive paints, but love the results of the one coat. I use DuPont Acrilic clear on it.
kalbert Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Well whatever it is, it looks right at home on a Nova. I hated Testors enamel spray cans, but you're right the new one coat stuff is pretty awesome and looks great right out of the can with some clear on top.
hvymtl Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Really dig the sleeper look 'cept the gel coat hood gives some away. Make sure the rims are screwed the beads if the tires. I have a white one going together and yours looks tones better than mine. Michael
Dr. Cranky Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Like others have said, I don't think it's ugly at all. I think it's a pretty interesting looking model. Thanks for sharing.
Pullin Gears Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Great build! Is the chrome side trim above the body line a kit decal?
Rusty Sierra Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Great build! Is the chrome side trim above the body line a kit decal? Yeah it is the decal that came with the model. I wanted to use the black one but it cracked in multiple spots so I was forced to go with the white.
