Just a quick update. I'm in primer, a few areas need some minor work. I am trying to get the fit of the bumper/grille/hood to be real nice. In addition to molding in the roof spoiler, I widened the rear 1/4 panel flared area, AND fixed quite a few areas I oversanded 15 years ago when I started this thing. I narrowed and contoured a 73 Javelin rear spoiler from Modelhaus to fit, not sure if I like it on here, I'll paint it separate and decide later. The chassis mods are done and I can start painting this. I made some belly pans also, I'll take some chassis pics for the next update. I still can't believe it's finally in primer.Comments always welcome, good, bad or ugly. Have a good one.

This is a very interesting concept. It looks natural so you are definitely doing it right. I agree with you on the rear spoiler. Personally, I wouldn't use it but that's just me. Looking forward to see it finished!

Thanks,

Great looking concept car! I agree that a tighter fit on the spoiler might help it. I also find that paint changes everything! A dark color might help it to blend better (I'm just guessing that the rear will be blue?)

Very nice idea you have going on this one man, about your rear spoiler, I just think that it is covering too much of your back lights, I would go with something higher and slightly smaller and more aerodynamic but it is definetly looking real nice, keep us posted........... ;);)

woops. In my haste to take the pics in a friend's photo box Saturday, I didn't notice the spoiler was falling off the decklid. ;) It fits a lot better than those pics, here are some with the spoiler where it belongs, but now the pics aren't great(bad lighting and everything else). oh yeah, the taillight panel will "float" between the bumper and spoiler. Thanks for commenting. ;) Later

Nice build so far, and very different. sort of reminds me of some of the 60's concept cars, but with a modern twist. I like the look with the spoiler. Great. ;)

A very interesting concept and the blend of classic & modern is going to work well together.

I'd vote against the rear spoiler I think that it disrupts what should be a smooth line aft of the cockpit. I'd also like to see a smooth transition from the Callaway piece to where it joins the rear body piece.

That thing looks sweet! Excellent bodywork, it looks like a factory concept car. You've got to go with one of AMC's BIG BAD colors! The stance looks right on and I dig the side pipes (an AMX factory option). great work. Check out my redesign of the '06 Charger (the '06-9 Charger). I've posted new pics of my recent progress.

Rob,

That is absolutely the most out-freakin'-rageous models I've seen. I can't wait to see it completed. the only thing I don't like about it is that I didn't think of of it first!

BTW I adjusted your last couple of pics to show it off better. I've been collecting pics of this build in my Fotki;

I Can't remember the last time I've been more interested in following a build.

Here's the two paint ideas I'm tossing around.

#1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_AMX-GT ,I would change the stripe somewhat, probably strobe up and over the "roof", and maybe flip the colors. I am also collecting info and parts to build a replica of this car at a later date.

#2 My original plan was for the factory Red,white, blue scheme, divided in 3rds, like the AMX super stocks, but instead of a straight line dividing the colors, it would be like the salt spray graphics that were popular for a minute, when I first started this, kind of like a tear away between colors, if that makes any sense, I can see it in my head anyway :o .

Either way it has to be HoK candy red and blue with pearl white, I already have the paint waiting to be sprayed.

Not sure on interior color, maybe a dark red and/or blue., haven't given it much thought.

Again, thanks for the comments and input, hopefully for the next update, I will have some paint on something(sprayed not spilled). See ya

Been working on some detail as of late. Made a grille out of Evergreen styrene, it took a couple nights, and it's a little off center, but I'm callin 'er good. Cut the custom headlights from a parts box grille, might be from a 59 El Camino. Have to track down my Wagonrod for it's tri bar headlights, I would prefer those on this car. Some twisting going on with the driver fender, don't know why all of the sudden it's doing it. I can tweek it straight, hope the 5 min epoxy will hold it in place.

Made some Trendsetter-ish sidepipes (a dealer added option) from aluminum tube. They are not exact but have the look. I am trying to make some turnouts but I am having limited luck making acceptable ones, I need a pretty tight curve. I'm still trying though. I might sand the rocker trim smooth too.

I widened the taillight panel to fit the wider 1/4 panels and added the "Callaway", I also removed the "A" from the spoiler.

This is a test body I sprayed to check how the colors looked. House of Kolor Candy red and blue over white pearl. It's a little lighter and brighter than I was hoping for, I'll either add a few more candy coats or a slightly darker base color on the car. The stripe is a very crude and sloppy idea of how I plan it to be, It will (hopefully:) look better in it's final form.

That's all to report for now. Hope to make much more progress this weekend, hopefully it will be in paint. I'll keep ya posted. Thanks for lookin".

Finally got some paint on this thing. Hok candy apple and cobalt over a dark silver/snowhite pearl base. 3 coats of clear wetsanded flat. Might just spray a couple more thinned coats of clear on it, I don't think I have enough clear left on it now to finish the polishing process. I am also considering leaving it in the sanded stage, I kind of like the anodized look, but will probably polish it out. The chassis and drivetrain are painted and pretty close to complete, didn't take any pics of them though, interior has a way to go yet. I am still trying to figure out how to do my white stripes, I did buy a sheet of white decal paper and might try to hand cut a set. Comments and ideas welcome.

My club of 6 members has a challenge we call the Collection Raid. Go to volunteer members house and raid his stash of kits and determine an approximate deadline, around a year later . This was year two, at my house. I agreed to resume this Amx build for this raid. Yesterday was the deadline with an early lunch served in my basement with members unveiling their builds, finished or not, in my case, not. Here is the whole group of members builds, minus the one, not even started build.

I had my camera out today so I took some chassis and interior shots. Nothing is finished yet. Driveline is all glued in. Plug wires added, I would like to add a bit more wiring all over. Intercoolers, injection unit, and radiator assy. are just resting there. I still have to add the turbo setup and plumb the sidepipes. Some front suspension details yet to be assembled, rearend pretty much done. And there is a belly pan from the trans. to rear suspension that is not shown. I need to add carbon fiber to some areas too. Interior is sprayed a custom mixed color, no detailing yet. I do plan to repaint the dash top(got some dirt in the paint) and add a little red somewhere on the doorpanels. I'll probably re-clear the body this weekend, then I will post some pictures... shiny style. See ya

Rob,

I love the color combo! And I love the styling behind the cabin. I have to ask about the glass. It seems to resemble the "barely cuda" shown around here? Just curious.

Also, is one of the members of your club a certain Tory? That "Coffin" with the monolith looks familiar.....
