Cool tech, one of several in development or working prototype stages at present.

Thing is, as poorly as many drivers handle vehicles in 2 dimensions, thinking of a lot of them in 3 dimensions is pretty scary.

According to the Popular Science magazine I read in the '60s we should have been riding around in flying cars 13 years ago.

As long as it becomes an optional transportation, not a standard. I am acrophobic so, I will stick with paved roads for now.

As if looking front, back, left, and right every three seconds isn't enough as it is now, next we need to look up? People can't drive well on the ground! Now we need to dodge raining aerocar parts?

I'm thinking that rather than scary, it opens up a broad avenue for dummies to provide me with riveting entertainment.

It might be funny as long as long as you're not underneath them when they start falling out of the sky! I'm with the others who don't look forward to that. Just as soon as humans master driving on the ground (don't hold your breath!) we can start thinking about flying cars. In reality, I see vehicles like that as toys for those who have a REAL pilot's license and don't want to pay to keep their plane at the local airport.

I know that as in all areas of life, there are pilots whose proficiency is lacking. That being said, getting a private pilot certification is a process in and of itself, not even close to a drivers license. I would expect that someone with the time and money to get certified, and the cash to purchase one of these is not the type of guy that blows his inheritance on a Ferrari, imagines himself as Michael Schumacher, and does dumb stuff.

We need to get to a point where land vehicles are computer controlled and self guided, then we can bring out the flying cars.
