cobraman Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 (edited) Got this kit due to a thread in another section about milti-piece bodied kits. Thought I would try one again. I can now say that I didn't like them 50 years ago and I don't like them now. That being said I am going to try and build and finish this thing. Plans call for a 289 V8 which I think will fit and also upgrade at least the rear tires and wheels. This nmay or may not get finished, we will see. Thanks for looking. Edited June 7, 2013 by cobraman
cobraman Posted June 3, 2013 Author Posted June 3, 2013 Check out how screwed up they actual model windshield is compared to photos from box. Not even close.
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Cool project. That windshield is probably the worst part of the kit. I like the 289 idea...shonld just slip in there. That would make a fun little pocket rocket.
cobraman Posted June 3, 2013 Author Posted June 3, 2013 Thanks Bill. I really would like to fix that front window because it is so bad. Looks like a rear hatch from another car. Not sure #1 if I could fix it right and #2 not sure this kit is worth the effort. I'll see how the chassis works out and decide if I want to cut or take my Dremel to that windshield.
cobraman Posted June 7, 2013 Author Posted June 7, 2013 Can't get photos to work. Will have to try later
cobraman Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 I don't know George. The windshield is way wrong to be sure but I think I might just muck it up if I try to fix it. Not sure why they did it this way to begin with. Also, since it is already in paint fixing it is not really an option. I got it into paint quick so I wouldn't try to fix it and make it a bigger mess. I am going to have to live with it. I will admit it does look bad and will probably be kicking myself when it is done that I didn't at least try.
cobraman Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 Got a bit further on this build. Chassis and interior is just about finished. Shot some clear on it yesterday but since I used the Ultra Gloss Enamel I will need to wait awhile before I can mate the body on the chassis. Thanks for looking !
jeffs396 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Very kool Ray! I've been hesitant to pick this kit up, but yours is looking good. I can see the major shortcoming of it, but your dark paint seems to help the funky windshield frame!
cobraman Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 Thanks Jeff. That is why I will not be adding BMF to the window frame. I don't want to draw any attention to it.
slusher Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Kool project Ray and nice progress. Very nice paint and finish.
Pro Wrench Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 This thing kinda looks like a downsized '67 or '68 Mustang Fastback.
cobraman Posted June 13, 2013 Author Posted June 13, 2013 This "thing" is done. Photos will be posted in the "Under Glass" section later if interested.
sjordan2 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Here's one with a GT40 engine. http://www.britishv8.org/triumph/derylewilliams.htm
cobraman Posted June 13, 2013 Author Posted June 13, 2013 Thanks Skip. That is very cool and I would suspect scary fast.
